Not my style but I enjoy seeing all these different setups. Someone should make a Kitchen appreciation thread could be a good resource for people wanting ideas...

What the hell is "subway tile"? I have seen this reference many times on this board and nowhere else.

ETA: never mind, a quick google search indicates it is just a 4X8 horizontal pattern with staggered joints or similar.

Isn't that the truth. I thought I had it down, and after 18 mos, I'm redesigning my island (in my mind). Perimeter seems to function okay, but I can see removing the island and refiguring in a few years. Don't need a larger footprint, but would reconfigure layout, plus add a height/elevation change on about 1/4-1/3 of the way from the end. Now that I've used it for parties, big cooking projects, etc, I can see where it can be improved. I put the microwave beneath the island counter, but put it too close to the fridge, making for a traffic jam. Elevation change on one end would block view of "island pile" of dishes, works in progress, etc from the adjacent dining area, plus allow for more storage beneath. Would also put doors on both sides of island for better access to storage.

I agree as well...moved into my house and right away I wished I had drew a line cutting through my dining room and kitchen and added 3' of width that i know see I could have added and used. I was more worried about the sqft number...but it sure would have been nice.

growing up with an interior designer and carpenter as parents, I swear we had a new kitchen every year

not only because they were constantly coming up with new ideas, but they also used it as a showroom of sorts

it was always fun to come home from school to the kitchen completely gutted

we remodeled our kitchen and bar/breakfast room 3 years ago, and I'm probably going to reconfigure the bar/breakfast this summer so it works better

Ha, not the color that is in here now. I'll try to fish up some pics of the house as it is now. Oddly enough I didn't take a ton of photos

When we were building our house we looked at several new constructions to get ideas. One time we were in a home that had a beautiful kitchen. It has a mantle and what I thought were false doors over the hood. I reached up and they really opened and there were shelves in there. The hood was vented right into the cabinets. I have no idea how that passed inspection.
Make sure your hood exhaust vents to the outside of the house and not into the cabinets or attic.

One of the colors I used is called Icelandic. It's a light blue with a hint of grey. It's one a Sherman Williams color

I hope to finally do a kitchen remodel thread soon (same thing I said in the beginning of this thread). But this time, it might really be soon!

I hope you post pics of the changes you've made. Icelandic blue looks pretty. We used Benjamin Moore Glass Slipper in the kitchen and laundry room. Love it.

This color is the one I like for bedrooms. Do you remember what the name was?

Tame Teal on Sherwin Williams. Looks a bit different in person to be honest.
