Those counters and backsplash are pretty easy to make...

When I repainted the cabinets, you nearly needed sunglasses with all the lighting on at once.

I have NINE recessed can lights with ultra-daylight bright LEDs. White marble countertops, double wide window over the sink and huge double windows in the adjacent dining area. It's all about the light, to me.

+1 on smooth tile (or continuous stone, but that's pricey) backsplashes.

All white is a bit cold, I like some natural wood tones to warm up the cool colors. BUT NO BEIGES OR BROWNS. Gah.

dark colors. I really don't get the very dark stained cabinets; nothing shows dust/smudges more than a dark finish. Any slight wear (from regular use) begins to show almost immediately. They don't look "antiqued", they just look shabby and will need to be scrupulously maintained and/or refinished once the wear begins to show.

It's all about personal taste

I like either dark stain or white. Anything in between to me looks like shite. But obviously that's a personal preference.

And what's up with all of the beige-beige-beige and dark browns I see all over the place? We live in a hot, subtropical climate. Cool blues and greens compliment our local daylight conditions, they're soothing: yet every other new construction open house I attend is full of ugly azz brown tones.

Yup

I'm painting the bedroom this color

I'm also painting over the beige with a color called icelandic. It's a light grey with a hint of blue.

I'm still debating on colors for the other bedrooms but it's going to be light blue/greens

It's not cold with all the red and I have a lot of bright colored local art in my kitchen. It's a fun room for me.

I have 6 windows in the kitchen. Double windows over the sink. A regular sized single window and two wide long windows.

I have a tile backsplash, black and white, smooth tiles with black grout. Have had no problem cleaning splashes of tomato gravies.

My colors are not for everyone. I think folks should put in the colors they like best. A kitchen is very personal, in my opinion, if you like to cook and spend a lot of time in that room. If you prefer browns and beiges, go for it.

I'm putting in a new bathroom and a girl from high school sent over tiles for me to look at. Everything she suggested was beige. Beige tones of tiles, paint. It was blah to me, but for someone else, it would have been fine, I'm sure. Another friend of mine said, "did she forget who you are?" and cracked up laughing. This girl will not like the result. The shower is black and white smooth tiles. The floor is patchwork cement tiles with all kinds of color and designs and the walls are going to be a sort of blue picked up from some of the tiles. Gonna be fun when it's done, but it's not for everyone by any means, but everyone doesn't live in my house and those who do must adhere.

I love these patchwork tiles.

Sounds like the color in my den and hallway. People are really surprised how much they like it.

No

That's just a snippet I took from the color simulator on the paint website...

I have a huge walk in closet with no need for a dresser so I won't have much bedroom furniture...

Ah, how presumptuous of me. Sorry.

I didn't know anything about induction ranges until we started talking about our remodel. I've waited so long to be cooking with gas that I was kind of peeved that there was something better out there. We're sticking with gas because I didn't need another decision to make.

Crap, after reading this thread I will seriously reconsider posting pics after the remodel.

This is the color I'm doing. Kinda muted but I'll have plenty of color in there eventually

Good job to place the switch plates horizontally, instead of vertically. They blend with the tiles. I would replace them with beige tiles to make them a little less noticeable.

ETA: I was referring to the ones over the sink. You could still turn the ones behind the cooktop horizontal.

Induction runs on electricity rather than gas does it not?

Yes. But it's certainly different than a traditional electric range in terms of functionality.

This this this.
I like sleek.. Modern.. And slightly industrial.

I hate most of the popular designs of Louisiana homes.

Calling my preference too cold is a compliment. That's what I want.

Eta: that said, everything looks good powerman.
Not sure why some in here are teetering the line of bashing just because it isn't their personal tastes. People have all kinds of different tastes for home design.

I'm either farmhouse style or very modern

not a fan of the contemporary or whatever they call the typical style kitchens
