Gonna be in key west at the end of March. What are some good places to eat and drink?

El Siboney for Cuban

Seven Fish for decent seafood from a guy with Louisiana ties.

I was not overly impressed by anything there trying to be higher end style (Seven Fish sort of is, but I give it a nod) but some people I know like that place on a little island for sunset dining. I don't know the name. Look it up if interested.

Appreciate the info. Not necessarily looking for high end places just casual places with good food and drinks. If there is a can't miss high end spot we would be open to that too.

so many great placed eat in the keys...

look for a "hole in the wall" type place and try it. don't go to the super touristy spots, they are a disappointment. I'll try and think of some more specifics in key west area. it's been a couple years since i've been there.

if you care to take a little drive out of key west, there is an amazing restaurant on cudjoe key (I believe it is) called the Square Grouper. a little pricey but food is worth it.

We've heard about Lorelei for drinks and the sunset, Hogfish bar for the hogfish sandwich and Robbie's for brunch and to feed the tarpon. We're gonna be there for 6 days though so we would like to hit as many hole in the wall (hidden gems) as possible.

To be honest it's 80+ miles from KW to Islamorada where these are located.......If you are going this far north

Lazy Days
Chef Michael's
Kaiyo are all outstanding

Lighthouse Grill at Faro Blanco Resort in Marathon is legit as well.

Thanks for the info BooDreaux. Are you the OB poster that has a fishing show? If so what are your thoughts on the Dreamcatcher All-in-wonder day of fishing? Planning on booking them for a day, but if you have better recommendations that would be appreciated.

Not personally familiar with them, I have asked a 25+ year of fishing Capt about them......He will be honest & soon as I hear I can let you know. Shoot me an e-mail boodreaux@fishingfloridaradio.com

IMHO I think fishing up in Islamorada is better....I do know plenty of guides up there.

Most importantly what type of fishing interests you most, what species and how accomplished of an angler are you?

third
get the carnitas and a gallon of the homemade sangria

there is a Spanish tapas place we also enjoyed but I can't remember the name. If you do go to islamorada lazy days and Lorelei are fantastic. Robbie's also, for brunch

Cracked Conch at the Conch Shack on Duval. I know it's right in the middle of all the touristy stuff but it's my favorite on the island.

Definitely a Blackened Hogfish Sandwich at Hogfish Grill.

Cuban Sandwich at Sandy's Cafe.

Louie's Backyard for something a little nicer.

Breakfast at Blue Heaven or SaraBeth's.

Angelina's Pizza for drunk food.

Sunday Brunch/pool party at Dante's.

Key Lime martini and small plates at The White Tarpon.

Fresh oysters and royal reds at the Half-Shell Raw Bar.

The restaurant on Sunset Key is called Lattitudes and is fantastic. Would definitely recommend if you have the time. I'd go ahead and make a reservation because they fill up pretty quick.

As far as nightlife goes, I'd avoid most of Duval except for the obligatory stop at Sloppy Joe's and Captain Tony's (original sloppy joe's). If you like beer, The Porch is a great little place. It's set in an old house that belonged to a prominent doctor on the island on Caroline St, right off the main drag. From there it's no big deal to hang a left on Whitehead St. and cruise on down to the Green Parrot to catch some live music. Schooner Wharf Bar, which is in the Historic Seaport across from the Raw Bar, is also a great low-key spot to check out. They've usually got music going too on weekends.

i'm not sure how willing you are to venture away from key west (which i would suggest doing at least once, to see bahia honda if nothing else) but if you ever are craving something other than seafood one night, there is a restaurant on big pine key called No Name Pub. It's been around a long time. Hemingway use to drink there. They have great pizza

Now, it's been a few years since I have been there, so hopefully it isn't too touristy or anything. Just a place with a cool atmosphere where you can drink some of their home brewed beers and have some good pizza.

beware, it can be impossible to find if you haven't been there. a local should be able to give you directions if you can't find it
