I haven't, but isn't that a Chalmette thing? I knew a guy in college who would put ketchup in his red beans.

When I was a kid I would put syrup on my cornbread which was on my plate of red beans and it would eventually combine. I never did it on purpose though.

My mother always put a bit in her white beans but I've never seen anyone else do it and I've never even heard of it in red beans until this thread.

Now I will put honey on my cornbread from time to time or even better a bit of Steen's cane syrup.

I've always eaten ketchup on white beans(everybody calls them soup beans in GA). Growing up, we always had beans, fried taters, and cornbread once a week.

I've seen yellow mustard put on red beans
I've also seen sour cream put on red beans.
Me, I just use Tabasco.

I put it directly on my beans and mix it in! I love it!

We put a dash of Worcestershire sauce in ours and it turns out great. It's just enough to add some extra "bam!" without overhauling the intended flavor.

I have a friend that puts mayonnaise on red beans. There should be a law against that.

If I spend 3-4 creating a pot of red bean goodness and someone puts ketchup on it, I'm gonna lose my shite.

Strangely enough, I feel the same about putting white beans on my jambalaya and potato salad in my gumbo. Maybe I'm the weird one.

I've always mixed a plop of mayo in my red beans. Always eat it with hot sausage, and dip that in mayo as well. I also eat pork chops with mayo, especially paneed pork chops.
