Bought a fifth for my wife's boss.

At 199.99 is this the world beater I'd expect?

Btw, I hate scotch......I'm a true KY and Irish Whisky man.

Meh, its alright. It's not worth that kind of cash though.

ETA: Let's just say I won't ever buy it for myself, but I've never turned it down when offered.

This made me

I think it's good, but it's not worth $200/bottle. There's lots of others stuff I'd drink before I'd pay that.

One's whiskey and the other is whisky.

This often confuses people

Not bad.... I like the black. I dont think ANY alcohol is worth more than $60-70 a fifth.

I think it is great. It is pricey but a great gift for someone.

Real scotch drinkers, in my opinion, drink single malts...and in the same sense have an understanding the regional flavors given. Highlanders like their scotch more like bourbon...milder, fruitier, oakier. Islays are full of smoke and iodine. Speyside is delicate and slightly salinic, etc etc. there are too many other great products out there that are single malts for that price

I like scotch a lot and I think blue is amazing. It is very smooth and easy to drink. That being said I would never pay for it. If I'm dropping that kind of money on scotch I will get Macallan 18 or another 18 year highland.

Your knowledge of the alcohol world deserves a lot of respect, but I have to disagree with this or at least have you define "real scotch drinkers."

I have an uncle who has been drinking Dewars for 50 years and another who has been drinking JW for longer than that. I'd say they are real scotch drinkers.

Could any scotch aficionados list a few bottles compatible in price, yet better than JW-B, besides Mcallen?

laphroiag,

I'd taste this before giving it as a gift. Really different and definitely an acquired taste.

I lump the blended scotch drinkers into the category of wine drinkers....there are people that love wine but don't appreciate the individual characteristics of the villages of burgundy, the regions of Bordeaux, the sub AVAs of California. I guess rather than saying a real scotch drinker I should've referred to the possibility of this person being a scotch connoisseur who appreciates the differences in each or whether they prefer what I consider a monotonous taste that blended scotches present. I personally enjoy islay scotch for the robust flavor but understand it's not for everyone.
