JFK To NYC Dilemma...

Afternoon All,
I'll soon be staying at a hotel near JFK airport to catch a flight to London early the next morning, so I'm stuck trying to figure out how to spend the one evening I'll have in NY.
JFK arrival is around 4:15 pm, but the thing is, I gotta get up around 4:30 am, so I figure I need to be back at the hotel for 10:30 that night.
It's an hour each way into Manhattan or Brooklyn, no way around it. Several people have told me that it's simply biting off more than I can chew to try to go have dinner in midtown, etc. with having to get up so early.
So...if I don't go into the city, can anyone recommend a decent place to eat that is semi-near JFK, and not going to be a totally expensive Uber ride?
Any advice, suggestions, etc. are greatly appreciated!

Dumb suggestion, but there has to be an evening flight from JFK to LHR that you can switch into right?
If not, maybe just pay for some lounge access?

The morning flight is on purpose. I've already felt like a zombie doing the overnight thing, and I'm specifically trying it this way to see if it'll be easier.

6 hours is more than enough time to go have a nice dinner anywhere in Manhattan.
Just take the E train to midtown or J train (I think) to downtown from Sutfin station. It’ll be faster than ubering at that time of day.

Check out Don Pepe's in Ozone Park. It's fairly close to the airport and is a genuine old school Italian classic.
The caveat is they serve big, family style plates - if you are dining solo it's going to be too much food.

Thank you, that's a really short ride from the hotel for sure. Won't be dining solo either!

I'm thinking it's gonna be closer to between 4-5 hours by the time you get off the plane and then check into the hotel, etc.
I'm assuming it should be fairly easy to catch a cab/Uber back to the hotel from the E train station at 10pm?

The train isn't bad. More consistent than an Uber at that time of day

Not to mention that you'd be sitting in an Uber for over an hour each way, and I don't wanna think about what that would cost...

Couple of things to know for Don Pepe's. Cash only, no reservations, closed Mondays and figure on being there at least 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
Recommended dishes. Baked clams, chicken scarpariello (order it with sausage & peppers), either veal Don Pepe or veal and eggplant, either shrimp Luciano (over pasta) or linguine with white clam sauce (ask for it pink, with a touch of tomato). The fried peppers or the escarole are also worthwhile. Go with the house wine, it won't kill you and the better bottles available are overpriced.
One further thing - I'd say an Uber to Manhattan at this time of day is a going to be long, expensive and dreary - and those suggesting the Airtrain to the MTA may actually hate you.

Right, I know better than that, thank heaven. We'd be taking a cab from the hotel to the subway, which is no more than 3 miles.
