Jax Brewery & Bistro in the French Quarter has closed

The former French Quarter New Orleans regional brewery (1890 to 1974) turned restaurant & bar has closed its doors.
Jax maintained the name but ownership has decided to permanently close the doors on the restaurant and bar.
The 11,000 square foot space next to Cafe Du Monde & across from Jackson Square offers an attractive location for a new business (we are hearing it may be Landry's Seafood). The place also has an amazing view of the Mississippi River on the 2nd-floor patio space.

Not 100% sure on that information. We have a tour that stops at Jax and that's the current news. I can't find anything to back it up online.
Google Listings is showing Jax to be closed but it's been pretty quiet so far.

The need to put concerts in there. No reason it can't be somewhat like Tips

I think it was doing well but when people moved in they had a big issue with the decibel level. Pretty sure live music and all had to be kept real low after a certain time. So unfortunately I don't think it can really thrive as a bar anymore.

It will be Landry's , no doubt.

LOL, this is exactly the reason they got sued by the Jax Brewery condo association.

True. They were looking for a place before they lost the lease down the street. That was the largest grossing landry's in the company.
discalimer- never eaten at landry's nor will I. You shouldn't either.

I hope they don't put a tourist trap like Landry's there.

Sorry to hear that. I don't know anything about the day-to-day or week-to-week workings of what's going on in that location, but I went to a wedding reception up there about 10 years ago and it was very nice.

The upstairs and patio area would make a great reception hall facing the river.
The building itself Seems like to big of an area for a restaurant (even fried seafood in the quarter for tourist) and should be broken up to multiple businesses.

This was a really crappy situation all the way around, people brought new condos on the top floor of an entertainment venue in the FQ, then decide its too loud so they sue the venue.

Why people go to Nola and eat at Landrys or Bubba Gumps or any place like that blows mind.

Pretty sure it's the same owner as Shady's Bar in Baton Rouge. When the night club opened in New Orleans they were KILLING it. Then I heard the issues w/ the condo association happened and they converted to a restaurant.
Tough biz that FQ restaurant stuff.

While I'm sure the club business was really good I think what killed them was not being able to host night-time private events with music. I attended a number of events there from conference events to private parties to receptions and it was a great spot for all of those things.
