Jambalaya Shoppe vs Pot and Paddle

Just read that Lafayette now has one of each. Can anyone weigh in on the merits of each? thanks

They're the same place, basically, with different signs. Pot and Paddle was started by the owners of a Jambalaya Shoppe franchise that burnt down, so they REALLY are pretty much the same place.
The jambalaya is okay, but I'm not a huge jambalaya fan. When I want a good Cajun gumbo and don't want to make it myself, either one will do in Baton Rouge. However, around Lafayette, I'm not so sure they're going to be able to compete with the local places. Their roast (Pot and Paddle, at least. Don't know if Jambalaya Shoppe does one), again, is okay but there are going to be way better local places around Lafayette.
In short, for the Baton Rouge area, they're interchangable and pretty good, but I think around Lafayette, they're going to be outclassed by a good number of the local places.

Jambalaya Shoppe is better. Pot and Paddle is to greasy like friend rice....the rice doesn't meld together like a good jambalaya. That being said, everyone here tends to hate all of them.

Am I the only one who likes par boiled rice in his jambalaya?

I like it better in pretty much any rice dish.

The reason restaurants use parboiled rice is because it can be held longer - whether it's in a jambalaya or something else. It's OK, but I prefer regular long grain. Also, chefs like the way the grains are separate, not sticking together.

Its like that sometimes but I have had really good batches as well. I've noticed Pot and Paddle consistently puts a lot more meat in their servings than Jambalaya Shoppe.

Pot & Paddle is terrible
I have to agree. Ate there last weekend for the first (and last) time and I couldn't even finish it. Threw away half of it. Flavorless, near mush...I will say they had a fair amount of meat in it. But the pork had zero flavor to it...and the sausage had a slightly salty, barely noticeable taste.
Id rather eat Subway.

I find P&P's jambalaya to be their weakest offering
Their specials, especially the pork stew are usually much better.

Make it yourself. Neither of those are impressive or worth paying for.

At least in Gonzales Jambalaya Shoppe >>>>>>>>>> Pot and Paddle. P&P tastes like white rice with kitchen bouquet all over it.

They both blow.

JS puts a ton of meat. At least they do at the Houma location.
