Is the Moscow Mule the "it" drink of the summer?

I've noticed a lot of bars going out of their way to push these drinks now. It seems like everyone under 35 is ordering them and for some reason they insist that it is served in a copper cup.

Why the sudden increase in popularity? Was it recently featured on some popular TV show (like what Mad Med did to Old Fashioned)? Or did some Kardashian start drinking them?

Hipsters, nerds, women, and homosexuals order them.

Probably because of the Trump/Russia thing. Russia seems to be the hot topic of 2017.

I never even heard of this until sometime just before last summer. I was hanging with this chick and it was her drink. I then begin noticing bars around me pushing the it. I believe the cup is essential as it keeps the drink at the right temp.

Well, that's how they're served

TLDR – Article Summary The Moscow Mule is a refreshing drink best served on a hot day. It should taste ultra-cold and copper makes this possible. Nothing really feels so crisp on the lips. Yes the cocktail is sometimes served in glass but it simply tastes better out of copper mugs like these fan favorites.

I made a big one in a styrofoam last summer and it didn't taste right- must be legit

My wife and I recently got into these. It's just a nice refreshing drink. I bought some copper mugs off of Amazon. We like to walk for exercise and a Moscow Mule after goes down really well.

I've always enjoyed them in the summer. Not sure why the rise in popularity other than maybe more people are starting to open up to drinking good cocktails instead of just ordering a crown and coke

It's had a bit of a renaissance as of late. It's not a new drink by any means though - it's a classic cocktail. It was the first drink that popularized vodka in the US.

Yeah, I remember seeing the copper mugs pop up everywhere about 3-4 years ago. Maybe I'm missing one in between, but it feels like the Mule became the "it" drink after the Old Fashioned fad wore off a bit.

I've been drinking these with Bourbon instead of vodka for years. And yes the copper mug does make a difference imo.

A friend made one for me in Denver a few years ago. Everyone else at the party seemed surprised that I'd never heard of it. I'm guessing it's a hipster thing.

Tom Collins and Negronis seem to be rising in popularity as well.

Yes, the summer of 2014. It's been a "thing" for a few years now.

Why is this the default accusation against anything that trends?
