Like others have said, Nola is probably the better brewery but Timber Beast IMO is the best beer brewed in either state.

I tried Abita's Select Mayhawk yesterday and I was impressed.

what's that like?

Solid Belgian Pale. It was better than I thought it would be.

Why can't they make beers this good in their regular lineup?

Because then they wouldnt be the 15th largest brewery in the country.

Yeah, it was a rhetorical question. They are making money with the regular meh lineup, so why change?

the only thing Abita needs to do in order to please all of the craft beer mavens here (why did we start using that word?) is to bottle their Selects. That's it.

No doubt.

Somebody started a thread a few months back and used the word. We've used it tongue in cheek ever since.

lazy mag's saison is pretty good. i would buy it along with timber beast but that's just about it for me. i never did try southern belle but i would possibly buy it also (at least once to try it). i like jeff stout and gulf porter and wouldn't pass on them if offered but i wouldn't go out of my way to find them.

Irish Channel Stout is hands down the best beer brewed in LA or MS.

I'd call Chafunkta's Old 504 better than ICS. It's probably my favorite beer brewed in either state. At least of those I've tried. Haven't had any Lucky Town, Southern Prohibition or Crooked Letter.

NOLA is easily, but people are too hard on Lazy Magnolia on this board. I enjoy their offerings for the most part.

I'd rank the MS/LA breweries as such... and I know there are more in MS now but I haven't tried them. NOLA Lazy Mag Parish Chafunkta Tin Roof Abita Bayou Teche Covington/Heiner Brau

I haven't had anything from Chafunkta yet, but this list seems accurate. If it weren't for Timber Beast, Lazy Magnolia would likely be behind Abita.

I second this.

Based on Canebrake, Envie and Farmhouse, Parish is my fave. I like NOLA Hop and Mecha but Blonde and Brown are disappointing. I like Tin Roof Blonde better like a few others have said.

I have not had a bad Parish beer yet and to me, Canebrake is the best, most drinkable LA beer.

I had one Chafunkta a few weeks ago (not sure if it was the 504). Found it forgettable.

Is this bottled or draft-only? I need to get me some.

No way. To each his own though. Ics is smoother imo.

I'm excited to try the Chafunkta stuff too, but I agree that if Abita would get their heads out of their asses and bottle the select series they would be a lot higher. I've really enjoyed quite a few selects, but the fact that I can't get them bottled really limits my ability to enjoy them.

I've only seen it on draft at h&h for growler fills

Eta: backwoods Belgian is now available. Haven't tried it but may grab some today
