There are many things more expensive if made at home, but it's just a matter of whether you want to make it or buy it. I'd rather a buy a good muffalatta, but there are some things I might rather make at home.

Yeah it's not so much about the cost or the work. I'm 27 and enjoying cooking / trying different things. Becoming a bit of a hobby in my time off. Thanks for all the help!

Central Grocery in New Orleans ships their olive salad. Also, years ago there was an Italian store and deli near Central Grocery called Progress Grocery. They no longer have the store but the owners still sell items and still make the olive salad which was highly regarded. They ship and have a website.....www.perroneand sons.com.

Didn't see that they ship their jars of olive salad and can't find the jars on the site. It says their muffs are sold at Rouse's, though.

I believe you can call Central Grocery to get it shipped.

Yes, I think CG ships, but I thought you were talking about Progress shipping. I misunderstood.

You can also buy Monjuni's olive mix on their website, but I'd your ever close to one if their restaurants, the stuff they make fresh is much better. Not near as oily and none of the preservatives.

Check your stores for Boscoli olive mix. It is really good.

Rouse's brand is Boscoli. I read it on the jar when I made a muffalatta last night. I added a little Cochon Butcher hot sauce to the mix for a slight kick. It was pretty good.

Boscoli is my favorite and I saw it at Walmart a few weeks ago for the first time. Albertson's has it too.

I add a sprinkle of red pepper flakes to mine.

If you don't feel like creating your own salad -- I agree with Boscolis -- Zatarain's has a pretty good olive salad also -- when you can find it.

Hobo
What do you use to make a roux for gluten free gumbo?

I believe hobo said gluten free flour.

Sure is a bunch of dope on top of that bread box.

Trying to find out what type of gluten free flour. I think that soy flour would probably be closest to wheat flour.

Okay. I'll bump this for you and maybe someone else will have a suggestion or you could start a thread on gluten free flours people use for certain dishes.
