Not that I needed an excuse to make these but last night my granddaughter slept over so I decided to make some homemade rolls for breakfast for her.
These came out fantastic!

Lately I've been using fresh cake yeast instead of the dry packaged stuff. I don't know but I think this makes whatever it's used to make rise better and faster.

The dough which is like three times it's original size.

Rolls made and ready to rise.

I guess I forgot to get a picture of them after they were risen. At that point they went into the fridge overnight so all I had to do was take 'em out and let them warm a bit and maybe rise a little more and then bake.
Here they are right out of the oven.

Annnnd...... after cooling a bit they were iced.

First one removed.........

I might have to do these more often! They are sooooo......... tender and delicious!

I've been getting it for the last three years at Restaurant Depot. It comes in one pound packages like solid one pound butter does for $1.39. It's on sale many times for $.99 a pound. That is also much cheaper than the dry yeast packages version.

I know many moons ago when we would go to the country(Avoyelles Parish)it was available at the supermarkets(Piggly Wiggly and I can't remember others)in the dairy section in smaller amounts.

I've heard that it's good for a month or so. I have Foodsaver'd some years ago and extended the "use by" date.

If you bake a lot especially as many do this time of the year one buck is sheaper and better than using dry packets. Then again you could buy the dry stuff in bulk but I haven't had good luck with that.
