I think the market will hole a lot more breweries than people think it will. I think loosening up the laws around taprooms, brewpubs, distribution, etc.. will open up the market for even more breweries

the biggest thing for new breweries to realize is that they don't need to make an Amber, blonde and IPA that will all become shelf turds.

Lone Pint is a good example of working out recipes at their brew pup then releasing more as they grow.

We thank you for watching out for us and disposing that swill promptly.

Next time I'll just microwave it and be done with it.

It's all based in the financing and goals of the brewery starting up. Some have good backing and can play the long slow game. Some are on a shoe string and will piece meal it and live on 30k salaries for 5 years...it's not one size fit all.

NoDa Brewing does some nice looking can wraps.

SoPro's aren't bad looking. At the end of the day, I'd rather a 4-pack of tallboys with a so-so label than a single bomber for the same price. It's about the beer for me.

But, they have to know HOW to brew those styles over and over and over again, constantly before investing/wasting money on more interesting styles.

brew pubs and distribution do not exist in Louisiana, however.

Agree with this. Creature of habit is so good, but I'm not going to keep buying bombers of it because it's on the shelf.

You know what's really ugly though? A $13 price tag on a 22 ounce bottle of DIPA that been released several times already.

When you get more breweries, I think they will start to specialize in different styles. Many of the breweries in Oregon don't have a "Canebrake", so to speak. Many of them have a flagship beer, but it isn't usually a mainstream beer.

Hair of the Dog has "Adam"
The Commons has "Farmhouse"
Breakside has "Breakside IPA"
Boneyard has "RPM"
Block 15 has "Sticky Hands"
Widmer has "Hefe" I guess this could be mainstream
Deschutes has "Black Butte"
Cascade has "Apricot"
pFriem has "Belgian Strong Dark"

and so on...

Most of those breweries produce other styles of beers, but they lean heavily on their specialty.

As the market becomes more competitive, I think you may see brewers trying to carve out a niche for themselves. Right now, there are not enough ambers, blondes, etc... to satisfy the need.

Louisianans drink a lot more beer per capita than Oregonians, by the way, and it isn't even close. So even if you convert a small percentage of BMC drinkers in Louisiana to craft beer, that can drive a lot of breweries...

Even those on shoestring budgets can make it quick. Boneyard started out with used equipment that they picked up for nothing from graveyard of brewing parts (hence the name Boneyard). They did so well, that after a year, they went to the bank to borrow a quarter million dollars to expand. The bank turned them down and told them they wouldn't loan them any less than one million dollars, because a quarter million wasn't enough to expand enough to meet market demand.

Will G&G be just as difficult to get as GitM? If I wanted to get a bottle to try should I be making calls?

It shouldn't but I just left calandros and saw some dude with 14 in his basket. Luckily I got one before he made his move. They may already be sold out over there.

I think I have to agree. Cut the price down to 9.99 max and I'd buy more than one.

I agree--and I get that Great Raft is just going by the laws of supply and demand. I mean if some ol boy was buying 14 bottles in Calandro's earlier, and it sells out at some point or another (because let's be honest, if they're looking at strictly dollars and cents, why would they care how long it sits on the shelf--only care if it sells out or not, which it does).

But just for comparative purposes (we'll stick with the price at the brewery to be fair):

$12 for 22 oz. = $8.73 for 16 oz. = $34.92 for 4-pack of 16 oz. = $6.55 for 12 oz. = $39.30 for six pack of 12 oz.

Compare that to the 12 oz. can of Ten Fidy for $5 that everyone was talking about the other day, or the $3.50 Tree House 16 oz. cans (which are sold as individuals at the brewery).

Basically the only thing I've purchased that comes out to more per ounce was BCBS ($10 for 16.9 oz. = $7.10 for 12 oz.) and maybe some of the Prairie sours.

ETA: My point--I bought four of the G&G, so I like it enough to buy it. I am just curious what about brewing it makes it so expensive?

Andrew answered this last time via Ross and said they were working to get the price down. Pretty sure it had to do with hop contracts.

Yeah I remember that convo, and I trust they will. I was just hoping they'd do so with this batch.
