Working construction in Round Rock just north of Austin and am looking for a good BBQ joint. Any suggestions?

Rudy's

/thread

Bonus suggestion NXNW. Good beer there. And food. It's technically in Austin I believe but it's north Austin. Basically round Rock.

Eta. Rudy's sauce is the bomb. Buy a bottle.

Eta brass tap in round Rock is okay. Big beer list.

Sorry I like round rock.

I'm not an expert on Austin BBQ, but I can say I enjoyed the food at Terry Black's, and there was no line.

If Austin experts say I'm an idiot, listen to them. Just giving my two cents.

Rudys will do in a pinch but I wouldn't call it worth driving to. Their breakfast tacos though are really good for a drive through BBQ place

If you're in round rock, there's a Salt Lock right next to the Express' (AAA baseball) stadium. I'd go there over rudy's unless you want to just get it quick.

Louie Muellers in Taylor. About 20 minutes east of Round Rock. World class.

Valentina's on Manchaca. Way south but worth the drive.

OP, this above is your answer.

Rudy's, though now a chain, is still good and better than anything in Louisiana.

I don't find rudys to be special at all.

Haven't been, but I've seen franklins BBQ all over and would likely try that out when there.

Rudy's meat is just good. But that is my favorite sauce in the world. Brings it all to great status for me.

Rudy's is a chain and a good chain, but it's not in the same breath as some of the BBQ places around Austin. i.e. Franklin, La Barbecue, Stiles Switch, Micklethwait, Louie Mueller, Snow's, Valentina's, Kreuz, Smitty's, City Market, etc.

Louie Mueller's in Taylor is your answer. It's one of the best BBQ joints in Texas and is by far the closest one to you. It's Tier 1. And hell it's probably easier for you to get there than anywhere in Austin.

Valentina's is great but is a hike. Franklin's is great but you probably don't want to wait in line.

Rudy's really is not bad - like others have said it's better than what you can get most anywhere else - but it's silly to settle for that when you're so close to a place like Louie Mueller's.

I've been there twice and I agree. Good, but overrated.

I've always even Rudy's without sauce and enjoyed it. I'll have to try the sauce next time, but if BBQ needs sauce, somethings wrong.

LM's was the best? We are going to Austin next weekend and I plan to see what all the hype is for BBQ there
