Excited to see what they come out with, though I have no doubt it will be great. As of right now SLU has asserted themselves into the lead as having the best brewery sponsor in the state.

Hopefully it isn't a shitty beer like the other ones

Define "shitty".

Bayou Teche and Tin Roof went with beers that your casual Bud/Miller/Coors drinker would drink at a tailgate.

Is a klosh and a lager something the enthusiastic craft beer maven is going to seek out? No.

Are those styles that will net the most tailgate consumption vs. an IPA or gose? Yes.

See Canebrake as still Parish's cashcow, despite the other awesome beers they put out that get those of us on this board excited.

Yeah I assume they won't be putting Jucifer or Brightside in the can, but even if it's similar to Catahoula Common it should still be good.

Ragin Cajun Ale is pretty damn good in the stadium when it is 90 degrees and humid. The other style they introduced last fall was also pretty solid.

Bayou Teche needs to put that beer in cans, though. But yeah, really nice beer to suck down in 90 degree temps. As much as I love my hops, a 7.2 ABV IPA would be rough for taking down in that heat from 11am to 6pm kickoff.

That's exactly why they're shitty, they taste like those beers. I get that you make a beer that appeals to the many vs. the few, but Bayou Bengal is terrible. And I like what I've been drinking lately from Tin Roof.

Well it says American wheat ale right there on the label. So I'd say that's what they're going with.

I am a big fan of Cajuns ale too. Real good when ice cold.

I don't know about Bengal or the new SELU beer, but in the case of Bayou Teche, it was a partnership whereby the UL-Lafayette Business/Marketing department gets some of the proceeds.

So yeah, they're going to do a beer that maximizes gross net profit. These breweries are going to stil brew styles that beer mavens enjoy, but these university "flagship" beers are going to be simple in order to appeal to the masses.

Also, these types of beers are the ones that convert BMC drinkings. My dad started buying Canebrake to support local business. He enjoys the hell out of that and Ragin Cajun. So now, he's a local craft beer buyer. However, he doesn't like all the hoppy stuff, so if that would have been his introduction to local craft, he'd likely still be buying the BMC stuff.

Maximize profit for the college "flagship" beers and have something that could help convert your every day Joe to supporting local craft beer, even if Bayou Bengal or Ragin Cajun is all they ever buy. I'm struggling to see a downside here.

Do they sell beer in the stadium at ULL? They do at SLU, and I was wondering if they were going to try and work it out so that these were available in stadium. Right now it's usually just Budweiser or Michelob.

They do.

The baseball stadium has a beer station dedicated strictly to local craft. It's pretty cool to have, and it makes money hand over fist.

That's legit.

Hopefully this is out by the opening weekend of football season so I can stock up an ice chest for the SLU vs ULL game.

Tin Roof and LSU have a similar deal in place.
