Getting rid of garbage can odor

Anyone got a tip beyond just soap and water?

I fabreeze the inside of mine every time I take the bag out. You can spray vinegar in the bottom also. When it dries it won't smell like vinegar or trash.

I tried something like that. This is waaaay more serious. This is not a kitchen can. This is a large plastic rural bin with wheels. Gets picked up once a week. We're talking dead possum carcass in there for 2 days.

Set fire to it and blame it on local teenagers. Arson is fun when no one gets hurt.

Ah. Fill it up with water and a gallon of bleach. Have done this with mine a few times. Opossum slime hard to kill.

Thanks. It's not actually slime. I put the possum in a big garbage bag before putting it in the bin. Will try your solution today.

Pressure wash that thing or request a new one

Just went outside for a sniff. The Clorox idea is working. Thank God my dog didn't kill a skunk.

Soak it in bleach. Or hot water and some blue dawn, then pressure wash it. Mine was funky a couple years ago. The lid got broken by the trash collectors and it held rain water. Water + garbage was not a good combo in the deep summer heat. I cleaned it out with bleach and pressure washed it then drove a nail through the front of the bottom and that way it will drain.

I use a long-handled scrub brush with soap and water. If that doesn't work, I use bleach and leave it in the sun to dry. That always works.

The amazing thing is that my dog is a 40 pound Aussie Shep. The dead possum was big. About 20 pounds. My dog was throwing it around like a rag doll as they fought.
He does have some anger management issues and the possum must have said something to disrespect him. I hope he doesn't need therapy.

Just be careful where you dump the bleach water, unless you want a big dead patch of grass.

If anything is left after the bleach treatment, hit it with some baking soda.

Hey, I thought about giving the possum a proper Christian burial. But the Aussie would have exhumed the grave and given it a posthumous beat down.
