What are some suggestions for a meal tonight? I always eat at Miller's when I am here and really like it but want something different. Not Bubba Gump or Joe's.

I enjoyed the Spot. Good burger and good drinks.

Bayside place?? If so, yes. This place was very good.
Too damned hot to eat it but there is a pretty good gumbo place. It is by the Strand. Just watching there method of preparing gumbo is interesting. And great beer selection.
I realize it is an LSU board so some gumbo snobs will turn their nose. BUT it is about as good a bowl of gumbo that I have had at a restaurant.

Looking for seafood I believe. Have my two kids with us also. I am staying at the holiday inn right next to Olympia and have never tried it before.

galveston is very much a lunch town which kinda makes dinner options scarce.
if you want a great brunch and lunch spot, try Farley Girls. its legit

If you'll by any chance be there for lunch, Farley Girls was so good that I would have been perfectly happy eating every single meal the entire 7 days there. Seriously amazing.
I stood in the line outside the door at Mosquito Cafe and ate there too. Very good, but I didn't love it as much as Farley Girls.
I thought ShyKatz was also great. Adorably decorated, not that it probably matters to you.
Unfortunately, all of the places listed are lunch/brunch/breakfast spots.
The Original Mexican Cafe was a pretty good dinner. Not at all impressed by Black Pearl.
I hear Rudy and Paco is a great dinner, but it's fine dining.
Was not a fan. When not happy hour, every drink offered on the menu was $9, and basically just punch I got the burger, and it was ready before I filled my drink.. meaning it was already ready when I ordered I just HOPE it's because they were pumping out burgers so fast.
Side note: I asked the guy my best friend met while we were on vacay (who GM's their equivalent of Last In here, so he knew the city well) what's the deal with almost no table service in Galveston. More than half of the places I just listed had a counter you order from instead of a server. He said the island just doesn't have the population count to have waitstaff.

Rainforest Cafe? There's a cool floating ride thing you can go on after and throw up all the food into.

We have reservations this Saturday night at Rainforest. Is it the same chain as the one in Vegas?

I would have to think so. Good idea on the reservations, when I went we didn't call ahead. There is a bunch of stuff to look at while you're waiting though.

I went with someone's suggestion here at the hotel and went to mosquito cafe. Really nice place had some very unique dishes I thought. Not your typical food it was very good. Had an appetizer of large grilled shrimp on skewers served on purple cabbage, romaine and some pasta topped with a vinegrette and a side of peanut sauce....very good. My meal was a Blt with grilled shrimp on a honey roll. Also very good. The wife had pulled pork caranados (sp?) with black beans and rice. Kids had bowtie pasta with Parmesan and marinara sauce. All was good.

Yes, it's a Landry's chain.

OP, if you happen to want a good burger and have the time to drive to Seabrook, go to Tookie's.

Got laughed at by every local that I told about brick house. Apparently, they all think its gross I never disliked anything I had.. But I've only been twice and got simple stuff.
The guy my friend met wrote me out a list of the best local places. Most I already named. There were a few taquerias too.
As far as the spot, different strokes but I hated that burger. It was dry.. The patty was flat.. And blegh just wasn't a fan. Wish I would have read Yelp before going in blindly. Apparently they do other stuff okay, and I could have been warned ahead of time not to get the burger.

Clary's and Rudy & Paco's are the best meals on the island, IMO.
Olympia is damned good.
Cafe Michael burger is far down the West end, but better than The Spot for a burger.
Guido's is awesome as well, but kasey's next door is better if you're dragging kids with you. Food comes out of the same kitchen for both restaurants.
