They have great catfish, and their fried chicken might be the best in town.

Yeah, they used to only serve catfish, then a few years ago the catfish prices went up a bunch and they started serving what I think was fried basa for a low price. (This was no too long after Piccadilly replaced their fried catfish with basa.) You could still get catfish, but it was several dollars more per pound. I guess not too many people bought the other fish, 'cause they switched back to just catfish at the higher price.

IMO, while basa has a mild fish taste similar to catfish, it's also chewier and dries out quicker if sitting in a deli.

I had some fried catfish after the first home game at like 11 pm from Georges... oh man!! It was incredible. It could have been the fact that it was the first thing I ate all day

Matherne's on Highland also has some quality sushi. Unfortunately, that section always stinks too.

I have been looking for a solid catfish spot ever since my soul food cooking gas station lady on highland found a new job. Problem solved

for starting this thread... I never realized Matherne's had hot plates and its pretty close to work and on the way home.

The biscuit was meh but everything else was awesome
