i know that 90% of my posts on this board are trolls, but this is srs

was tired of eating subway so i ran into matherne's hoping they had a deli or something. got some of their fried catfish and it was some of the best ive had in a long time. you get 5 fatass filets, 2 sides, a biscuit, and this little piece of cake for 8.99. i was full as frick afterwards

is their catfish famous or did i just stumble onto a goldmine? I went at like 3 so i figured the shite would be old and dry, but it was incredible

They use middendorfs cuts, and fry it themselves.

It's legit. Jones gets it from the other Mathernes.

I get it all the time. They have some other items that are decent as well.

I think we talked about how good Matherne's catfish in recently in another BR fried catfish thread. The Bluebonnet location is a little crispier and more seasoned than the Kenilworth Matherne's, but both are good. It seems like Bluebonnet uses more cornmeal in their batter, while Kenilworth uses more cornflour. I kind of like Kenilworth's style better.

They do sell Middendorf-style thin-cut (frozen) pieces, but their deli pieces aren't really thin-cut. More like fingerling (?) strips, some an inch or more around.

P.S. Their fried chicken is good too.

I've long preferred it at Kenilworth also, just a tad better there. Years ago, wasn't one owned by Dale and one by Ernie?

Went to Middendorf's last month, it is still a cut above..better than Matherne's ,etc..

They're in the free-standing open freezer closest to the dairy section. I've never tried them, but I see them every time I pass.

I was a regular at the Kenilworth location for 3+ years while at LSU. Solid hot counter food. Do yourself a favor and get the meatloaf when it's available.

Those Middendorf's fillets taken from a ice water bath through some Chef KD's fishfry into some 375 peanut oil is as close as I've been able to get to top tier restaurant quality at home. A pile of those and some tots and a cold IPA is as good as it gets
