I'm just munching on an iceberg lettuce salad, realizing how much I love it. It's a combination of the crunch and the "juiciness" that appeals to me as opposed to other wilted, texture less lettuces. This got me thinking about other foods that I enjoy that are perhaps looked down upon in the culinary world.

I also love a good cold red delicious apple, which is considered one of the lesser apples by most.

It's not my favorite mushroom, but I can enjoy and find use for white button mushrooms as well, even though they're viewed as being low on the totem pole.

Thoughts? Foods on your list?

Ramen. Not real Ramen but the terrible 30 cent bag ones.

Gas station food tornadoes. Put it in the nachos container and add chili, cheese, and jalapeños.

A properly managed hot box is like a cornucopia of awesomeness. Meat pie or crispito? I'll take both please. And an egg roll.

And a 2 piece Kristy Crunchy with a tater log.

Velveeta

Truth. Velveeta shells are in another stratosphere compared to Kraft blue box.

Black-eyed peas, for NY's I make them just like I would red beans. Delicious.

I grow them and love them. Most of them get pickled but some of them go in the oven to bake and they are very good that way too.

Same here. My traditional New Year's Day meal is black-eyed peas with rice and a small pot of smothered cabbage.

The old wives tale is one for good luck and the other to bring money. Hasn't worked yet and all they seem to bring me is gas.

I could understand this in 1977. With so many great apples out there, I will never understand anyone eating those grainy/mealy sorry excuses for an apple.

i'm 57 years old and have NEVER developed a taste for apples.

just dont appeal to me. as a kid i would eat the caramel 'goo' off of a red apple at halloween & occasionally gagged if i bit too far & got a chunk of the apple.

now my 8yo boy sits and tears them up (along with pickles right out of the jar). he'll go through 1-2 apples every day.

maybe my wife has some explaining to do...

Cooking pears eaten raw. When I was a kid in the Lower 9th Ward one of my neighbors had a huge back yard that had Japanese Plum, Fig, Persimmon and Cooking Pear trees in it.

They'd let me go in their yard to pick some of the fruit since the hardly ate any of it and I loved eating all the different fruit they produced.

Cooking pears are hard a hell so I'd have to cut them in thin slices to eat them. Most folks wouldn't touch them unless they were cooked down with brown sugar to soften them up and add sweetness.
