I agree with this as well.

If the establishment wants to set a concrete "delivery fee," so be it but it's up for them to decide how to divide it up and apply it to their delivery drivers. It's not your concern, you're simply a customer.

I think you did the right thing. I don't think you stiffed him at all. If anything, it's the place that's messing him over for charging that delivery fee and he's not seeing any of it.

Pretty sad because he probably doesn't even know he's getting screwed over. He thinks customers are messing him over when that's not the case at all.

How fricking dumb do you have to be be not not realize the delivery fee isn't the tip.

So if you order something and pay a 20% delivery fee, from the place, not from the order itself, and then are expected to pay another 15-20% tip to the driver for an order that was 21 bucks, give or take a dollar, you'd be ok with that? You'd pay more in tips and fees than you would for the actual food.

That's not what he did at all. He already said he included a 20% tip on top of the delivery fee.

Quit being a jerk.

It's not 20% unless you order cheap-arse food. It's a fixed fee regardless of the price of your food order.

A lot of you sound like people who should be going to the drive-through at Micky-D's instead of getting food delivered.

On the card at the grocery store deal,

As soon as I walk up and exchange pleasantries with the cashier as she begins to scan my goods, I go ahead and swipe my card and enter pin. That way as soon as she gets done scanning the last item all I have to do is click "OK" to accept and then Im on my way.

You pay the fee for the luxury of having food delivered to your lazy arse on the couch.

The fee is going to the extra labor required from the in-house staff, the special containers that must be purchased, and the hourly wage of the employee dedicated to deliveries. Restaurants make very little from takeout orders. All of the money makers like alcoholic beverages, desserts, appetizers, sodas are at dine-in tables. You're lucky they don't charge a fee for carry-out as well.

Great. Except that I have NEVER been behind a customer who did that. And I go shopping every day. Hell, most of them don't even open their purse to find their card until the bill has been rung up.

So, I'm supposed to open their purse or perhaps say 'Bitch, while we're still young!" Really?

I do what Polar Pop does. It doesn't take much time for someone to get out the card and pay at the end of the scanning, though, so I've never been bothered by it. I'm not sure I've even noticed how people in front of me pay unless they've over purchased and have to start putting things back.

I tip 5 bucks on delivery regardless of delivery charges. Those folks are depending on tips to make some decent money, plus I get the same delivery people quite often and I prefer not to have my food spit upon or decorated with foreign hairs. Delivery folks can be your friend.

If you like.

Your point as I understand it is that cash is better at the grocery store. Probably is.

My point is that they don't really care that you have cash and they don't. So their speed is a you problem.

That's illogical. Zach feels an analogy coming on. If you drive 30 mph in the left lane and I can't pass you driving 40 mph then the problem is me, not you? Really?

My money is in my wallet in descending order of denomination. As the groceries are being tallied I'm taking out money. From the time the clerk says 'That will be 24.50, Mr. Zach' till the time the money is in her hand is about 1/4th of 1 second.

I am faster than that. Phone out and fingerprint scanned before they finish scanning my items. As soon as they are done, I hit okay and leave.

Phoning out is a lot of time. You lose.

I'm saying the problem is YOURS, not that the problem is YOU.

The checkout old lady or the slow driver don't care, so it is not their problem. To them.

The whole thing was meant as a little levity. Just playing around.

You don't understand. The bitch in front of me is a 'Her Problem'. That's why my people at Starbucks give me the high sign to get my coffee over here...because the moron in front of me can't figure out what she wants to order. The menu is so confusing.

It's the same way at Albertson's. If there is a woman who can't get her card to work they give me the sign. I walk to another aisle and I'm out in 10 seconds. I love my check out girls.

I definitely understand.

If I am in line at Starbucks and the person in front of me is slow, and I'm all upset about it, that's my problem.

You stiffed the guy.
Most delivery places charge that fee just because other places started doing it. The driver doesn't get any of it.

Yes, he could get another job. Doesn't change the fact that you stiffed him.
