I'd rather eat crisco straight out of the tub than Dairy Barn
yeah since dairy barn got big its not near as good. Cottens still has them all beat, greasy tables and all

Agree with the OP. Never have gotten the hype, especially at those prices.
I also think In 'n Out (new to Dallas) is a tad overrated but bang for buck it's far superior to 5 guys and some of these other "burger boutiques" that seem to be all the rage and over-priced.

Nice try, Local Burger Joint Owner.
I think this is the best characterization of the OP. I was seriously disappointed at the non disaster presented here.
And who exactly is overrating and hyping Five Guys? All of their own hype is from local newspapers and magazines and we all know how suspect and advertiser influenced those are. When they are talked about here you have 3 groups of people.
1. Don't like the burgers
2. HATE the fries
3. Good but not great, a step above lowest common denominator fast food chains.
Where is this alleged hype? The only thing over hyped about Five Guys is the hype.

You're right. i should have used "disappointment."
the hype, though, comes from other messageboards and just general chatter. i knew it was supposed to be good before i ever tried it and i don't go looking for that type of info.

Yeah, it's decent. It's certainly no Heavy Hit from George's though.
ETA: Five Guys fries are subpar though.

The fries you like are subpar.
For what it's worth, I am just making a point. Whatever fries you like, I can guarantee I don't because I love the 5 Guys fries.
At the end of the day we are talking about fries and everyone has different thoughts.

I love when people rag on a hamburger from a fast food restaurant. I mean really.
A fast food hamburger is a disaster? It was $10, tops.

as you know, ordering this is not a requirement so no, I am not dumb enough to order that.

I like a lot of fries. Are you saying that five guys fries are the only ones you like?
Posted on 8/15/11 at 10:49 pm to Jake88
Their original store in Arlington, VA, was unbelievable. Fresh meat on fresh buns that were more like rolls than buns. Any add ons you wanted and great fries. You ordered at the counter, paid there and then took your food home because there were no tables and chairs. The last couple of times I ate at Five Guys it was at Madison, MS, and St. Louis, MO. Both times it blew arse.
