Considering building one as a pet project between now and the 4th of July.

I prefer to smoke with the manila folders rather than the green hanging folders. The painted hooks give off an odd flavor.

My old boss made one, it's a POS. Once you start opening and closing cabinets, oil and drippins fall from the the one you open onto the faces/handles of the ones beneath. It doesn't take long before the entire thing is covered in food drippings. I would consider another project. Not to mention it's not very efficient. It has zero insulation and isn't sealed in the least bit.

Yeah, seems like a far better idea in theory than in practice.

I've heard dishwasher smokers are the best route.

I'd go Ugly Drum Smoker (Google it) before I'd do a cabinet smoker

The front loading washing machine smoker is a better bet.

HOLY SH!T! ... i thought you guys were busting my balls about using a file cabinet when you told me about the dish washers .. but i just saw a video on youtube, and people really do that. Makes a little bit of sense tho, considering they have a good seal and a heating element.

Exactly the kind of feedback i was looking for. I was more concerned about airflow than the lack of a seal, since most offset barrel smokers don't have top notch seals anyway. Hadn't thought about the drippage from the higher drawers though. Thanks for the input.

I was only considering the file cabinet because i can get one for cheap or free, my boys would find the conversion entertaining, and it wouldn't look TOO trashy on the back patio. I'm not doing an old appliance. Wife would divorce me for that one. I'd just buy a smoker before i did that.

You can buy a smoker for fairly cheap lol I'd leave the cabinet for office use.

Oh, I know JackD. I can afford to buy a smoker, lol. That's not the issue. It was more of a novelty thing, that's all.

After you used it a few times, it will look as trashy as any appliance sitting there, covered in smoke and chicken fat. Leaving permanent oil spots on the concrete.

The trashcan turkey or some roasts are a novelty and it leaves a cool looking UFO circle in the yard
