Truthfully, I can't say that I've had Cocodrie, Teche Hombres, or Miel Sauvage. I did try Biere Joi (disappoint), and Loup Garou is certainly solid. And their normal line-up is pretty underwhelming.

I should give the limiteds more tries. I respect experimentation, but I want it to be fun. Even if it's not great, I want it to be, "Oh, that was weird. Glad I tried that flavor melding even if it didn't quite work."

One thing I commend them for is their willingness to experiment and work with unique flavor combinations. It doesn't always work, but it sometimes it yields some really nice results.

Agree completely. Those guys try to make things interesting.

FBD-been cold and rainy here so i dug into my stout collection. I forgot I had this one. Look at how organized I used to be with the sticker

Batch 1 of this

Not sure if this is a good or bad thing but this beer hasn't changed at all in 5 yrs. It is slightly oxidized but other than that no change what so ever. Surprising. If anyone is cellaring any of these then stop, there is no point.

My remarkable beer got fricked by the bottom of the page. This spent grain homemade bread my wife made it just as awesome.

Have you seen where pushing a standard ~10% non BA imperial stout beyond more than a couple years is worth it?

I have had several that started to get that papery oxidized taste, which is kind of a bummer.

Dark Truth is just a tad under 10%, where Darkness is just a tad over 10%. 08-09 Darkness is just about the best beer in the world. Dark Truth not so much. Not many beers do well after year #2. A lot of stuff just falls apart like you said and I usually find that sours turn to vinegar.

I'm really trying to dwindle down and just about get out of the aging anything except gueuze and lambics game, with the exception of Darkness and a couple others I am experimenting with like Czar looking for that gem.

Interesting that you should mention Darkness, I have 2012 in the cellar and am wondering when to crack it. I was thinking definitely this winter, but if you say 08-09 is still great, then maybe I should reconsider.

As far sours getting vinegary, I haven't noticed that with anything that didn't have a little acetic acid presence from the start.

NBD THIS

This is exactly what I've been craving all weekend. I've been trying to figure out why everything, even good beers, were leaving me dissatisfied. I just needed a good RIS. Sometimes you just can't quite nail down what you're looking for.

Is Clown Shoes making good beers now? We had them in CO a couple years ago and other than catchy names they had nothing going for them. I think they lasted all of 3 months here. I know Ben at Brash(Petrol Owner) used to or still might do all his brewing at their brewery in MA or wherever it is.

Urine- I am sitting on 10-14 Darkness and I may open 10 this fall. The 14 I'm really not sure what to do with since it is BA. If you only have the one 12, I suggest you wait til next winter, they tend to age really well. I also find that other than BCBS you never really know what you are getting into on aging stouts or barley wines. I've been to several tastings where one year is phenomenal and the year next to it is garbage. You roll the dice and hope for the best.

Tomorrow is gonna suck for you. :bang head:

LastBD is a Pelican Umbrella IPA from up there. Very nice and crisp. Reminds me of a fresh hop IPA.

I wouldn't say that, necessarily. I've had a few Clown Shoes beer that were, well, clown questions, bro. But this one is pretty solid. It has a wonderful roast to it and pretty above-average body. It's like your second pick to prom.

Their Extremely Angry Beast was also solid, but the most recent version was pretty hot, in my estimation. I think it would do well with a little time on it. So I wouldn't say good across the board, but they have a few bright spots.

Their hoppy beers that I've tried have sucked. Maybe it's a product of freshness. I can't say.
