Most of the really good places are outside of Destin imo.

We used to go to Destin for long weekends back in the 70's ~ there was a place called the Sand Flea and the bar upstairs was Top of the Flea. Anyone remember it? I'm thinking it got wiped out by a hurricane at some point. Boy those were some fun times.

We'd make a cooler full of strawberry daiquiri's and play beach volleyball all day.

In Destin proper - Beach Walk food is incredible and the atmosphere (beach side - outdoor seating) is even better.

On 30A (east of destin) - Cafe Tango or Fish Out of Water

I second this. Very good place with a creative chef.

If you want to go to San Destin, Bistro Bijeaux is pretty damn good also.

we have the same taste in restaurants. I always forget about Bistro Bijou because it's at baytowne wharf which I associate with family style/kid friendly dining. But, it's a damn good restaurant.

Not that great and very expensive.

Captain Daves is by far the best food in Destin area.

Ok, so it sounds like there is not a lot of upscale dining in Destin. I just don't know if the other couples will feel like driving to eat dinner at these places mentioned outside of Destin, in the 30A area.

Never eaten there, but hit up that ice cream shop in that same development - it's some of the best ice cream I've ever had.

I've been there once and it was good. The wine list sucks, but it's a nice place and the fish seemed fresh. Cantina Laredo and Cafe Tommy Bahama in the same shopping center are both very good. In fact, if you're having drinks, go to Tommy Bahama. I'm not really an umbrella drink kind of guy, but there's are very good.

It's in the Grand Blvd development at Sandestin on Hwy 98. In that development just west of the Sandestin Publix.
