List of good/bad Olive Oils
These failed:
Mezzetta
Carapelli
Pompeian
Primadonna
Mazola
Sasso
Colavita
Star
Antica Badia
Whole Foods
Safeway
Felippo Berio
Coricelli
Bertolli
These brands passed:
Corto olive
Lucero

Omaggio
California Olive Branch
Bariani Olive oil
Lucini
Ottavio
Olea Estates

Kirkland Organic
I guess I will continue to use the Costco Organic as my everyday olive oil.

California olive branch is what I've been buying and it's pretty good.
Apparently it's real

I don't mean for this thread to validate what olive oil everyone uses, now, but I there have been a couple of threads on this recently, and I have used some of the fake olive oils in the past, and didn't really notice a huge difference.
I almost always use olive oil in a dressing on when cooking, and distinguishing the difference between them is kind of like figuring out which bourbon is the best when you mix it with Coke...

Are the fake ones actually bad for you?? I think I bought the Mazzetta and was wondering why I got such a good deal on it

good way to tell is put some in the fridge. If it hardens there is a good chance it's real. If it doesn't, fake.

I've been using avocado oil from Costco. It has a higher burn point when cooking. I don't think it is much different than olive oil

The big one, I think, but I think both might come in organic and non-organic varieties.

I agree for the most part. For cooking it can be hard to tell depending on the meal. For salad dressings, it's easier for me to pickup.
I love the Chilean picual from these guys. LINK
I went to their store in Park City. You can sample olive oils like wine. It was amazing the variety in the tastes.
So, I use a store brand when cooking and I feel like I can't tell. I use the picual when the flavor will be more prominent.

I don't know that brand, but it's Big Lots, so it's probably exactly what you're looking for.

Not sure what brand(s) Trader Joe's uses for their packaging, but it's still going to be my go-to for the price.

I don't think they are bad for you but it's like thinking you have bought Coke your whole life only to find out it's been Pepsi

Huh??? Pepsi is on par with Coke and it is personal preference on which brand you like better. It would be like buying Coke your whole life to find out you've been buying Shasta.

Always important to do an extra step or two of research when it comes to health claims. Good job pulling this other story as it clarifies the over simplistic first article that I found suspect. The "study", which was not a real research study only looked at extra virgin claims, not olive oil.
The Olive Center’s testing took place between 2008 and 2010. Researchers did not examine whether olive oil was “fake” as such (i.e., something other than olive oil misleadingly labeled as such), but rather whether oils identified as “extra virgin” actually met the strict criteria required for that designation:

The "Study" only looked at extra virgin oils. It is a little deceiving because it makes it sound like you bought olive oil but they filled the container with peanut oil, which was not the case.
