BR has a ton of soul food restaurants, but they're all in the hood so the white people on here are too scared to go to them.

Between La Reyna and La Salvadoreña, I'd say Baton Rouge is doing pretty well for its size on the Central American front.

There is a new place on Old Jefferson as well, where that Chinese restaurant used to be (China Garden?)

Jamaican is a cuisine I would love for Baton Rouge to have. Ronnie's Ribs was good and I don't know why they closed.

Seems like the style of cuisine dominant in Jamaican food would be popular in Louisiana.

Also, an authentic Cuban restaurant would be great.

Baton Rouge HAD a fantastic Jamaican restaurant in Ronnie's Ribs.

Baton Rouge also HAD a fantastic Central America (Colombian) restaurant in Montana's.

I was a regular at both.

They have now closed because Baton Rouge didn't give a shite about them. Burger King however still remains open. Enjoy.

Ronnie's Ribs was an odd place though. It was in an obscure location and was never busy. Guess it was only a matter of time.

I agree on all counts.

Her food would have been a perfect candidate for a food truck in some ideal location. She could make batches of whatever she wants to and sell out every day. Would be a win win situation.

Ok, then can you tell me where you have had good Indian food before.

through work friends, i eat a good amount Indian food. Yes its from real Indian people that live in India.

please don't tell me about your family (if you are Indian) or your neighbor because no restaurant is EVER going to compare to homemade. My own homemade Indian food is always better than the restaurants and I am self taught.

Ah well I guess my argument doesnt stand. I dont get this line of thinking though. Plenty of restaurants do better versions than mom and pop at home because theyre professional chefs.

I get where youre coming from. Would it be wrong to call cajun food in some random place in Ohio garbage(if its a shitty version of it)?

I mean we have 2 Indian people in this thread agreeing with me. You think they would just say an Indian restaurant is bad because its not like their family's homemade meals? No

Same here. And I think Bay Leaf and Curry & Kabob do a fine job with all three.

Now I'll admit to have never eaten in an Indian friend's home, or really haven't eaten much Indian food outside the state, but BL and CK serve tasty food, and I do know food that tastes good. Hardly the nasty slop portrayed by some in this thread.

I've never had Indian food in an Indian home, but I've seen jambalaya bastardized all over the country even if everyone there agrees it tastes good so I wouldn't be surprised if the Indian food in BR is bastardized even though we think it is good.

They have specific dishes that you don't find anywhere else, like poutine that you mentioned. Every pub in Quebec has Prince Edward Island mussels and fries which I destroy when I'm there. They're also known for their game meats like bison and elk. The most popular dessert is maple syrup pie, which is sort of like pecan pie without the pecans. They produce good ice wine too, so yes, I can see a cuisine theme.

It's might not be a restaurant but La Tienda onot Siegen is about as authentic as it gets.
