Emeril’s Delmonico has closed for good

Sad to hear this. The place has been boarded up since March 2020, and now the decision has been made not to re-open
The original Delmonico in New Orleans dates back to 1895. The barber who used to cut my hair when I was a kid told me once that he and his wife went there every Friday night for decades. This was back in the 70's. It was no longer one of New Orleans' best restaurants by that time, but it was still a special place for a lot of the old timers.

In the 70s it was owned by two sisters, they were awesome to do business with

No one from New Orleans went there anyway. And at the risk of sounding like a defense of Latoya; we really haven’t had that many closures since Covid.

Hated to see this. I enjoyed all of my meals there including brunch on Easter Sunday. The space and atmosphere are really nice. Emeril did a good job when he renovated. I remember eating there one rainy night and enjoying watching the streetcars and the lights through the windows while dining. I hope someone else will put a restaurant there.

This is from the last part of the article on nola.com. I was born and raised in New Orleans and I never knew until today the connection between Commander's Palace and the original New York Delmonico.

I only ate there twice but both meals were fantastic.
I still remember the first time as someone wealthy was treating me. I had a dry aged prime strip and my host had picked a very nice bottle of wine.
We hung around for a long while and had dessert and port.

I know this was just announced but I heard over a year ago they were not going to reopen. My boss was friends with the previous manager.

Yep. He also shuttered his test kitchen in the area. At the time it was said Emeril had some financial issues that had been building and covid just hastened them.
