Mr. Balls, where did you end up eating in Mobile. Have to go there soon. I looked at the menu on the Royal Scam site and it didn't look terribly interesting from a seafood standpoint.

Was told the Blue Gill and Tacky Jacks were good for casual dining, which is what the group is looking for, in addition to fresh seafood.

Anyone have any suggestions? thanks

I hit the Royal Scam kinda late Gris. Had the Beef Tenderloin app, salad, and a couple martinis. It was good, but at that point it didn't really take much to impress me. Only seafood joint I've eaten around Mobile is Felix's. It's decent.

FWIW don't get the chicken wrap and fries at a bar called Veets. You'll most likely leave it on the table and stumble next door to the Royal Scam.

Ha!

I just don't think the Royal Scam looks interesting at all. At least Felix's appears to have some atmosphere and a lot of seafood choices. No one is looking for fancy, so it appears to fit the bill.

Ive been to Felixs many times and it has pretty good atmosphere and outstanding service. It is pretty much considered "the go-to place" here in Mobile which isn't saying a whole lot. You have to understand what makes a good restaurant out here would be average at best back in LA. Kevin's in Maurepas would blow these people away if they think Felix's is where its at. Take this for what its worth, but I've been told by a few locals that The Bluegill and Ed's Seafood Shed have better food than Felix's.

some places that hold their own:
-The Hungry Owl
-BBQ: The Shed, The Brick Pit
-Soul Food: Mommas on Dauphin
-Mexican: Fuego, La Cocina
-Burgers: Callaghans Irish Social Club, Butch Cassidy's
-True, Cafe 615
-Royal Scam
-Italian: Via Emilia
-Brunch: Spot of Tea
Best Beer Selection: Hopjacks

Fairhope:
-Panini Petes (sandwiches, burgers)
-Master Joes (sushi)

Thanks, Geaux. We know not to expect great. Decent seafood will be fine. Thanks for the list. Will keep them in mind for a lunch, perhaps. I think Felix's will work.
