Looking for 3-5 places in Houston to eat at. Not interested in mexican places unless it is small and unique(dat dog).

How is Underbelly?
Thinking about maybe making it to Killens. Anyone been? Worth the drive/wait?
Cafe Azur looks good. Preferably within 610. Not to expensive. Lunch and Dinner. Somewhere near the zoo and somewhere near the Toyota Center.

Like a taco place that does really good tacos and not a papasitos or regular Tex Mex place.

It's good. Drink at Hay Merchant before or after.

Yes. Yes/yes.

Other than that, search this topic on this board. Tons of great suggestions.

Killen's steak house or BBQ? If it's BBQ you seek and want to stay in the loop go to The Pit Room...I'll never go to Pearland again.

Good Dog >> Dat Dog

Best tacos in the city are at Tacos Tierra Caliente, which is a shitty little food truck that just takes cash outside of west alabama ice house.

If you want bbq, go to Roegels. Might be the best brisket in houston. Definitely better than killens that tastes like it was soaked in liquid smoke.

I wasn't impressed with Roegles...his pastrami is good, but otherwise, meh. Plus the restaurant itself is a shite hole.

You've been away too long. Things change.

Killen's is nothing short of awesome. B&B Butchers in the city is pretty kick arse.

Hunky Dory, Foreign Correspondents, State of Grace are my favs.....but Houston has a pretty solid food scene.

Something similar? A good taco shack/food truck sounds good.

Go to brunch at Hugo's. It's not the "Mexican" you're used to

Helen or Local Foods by the zoo

Weights+Measures, Vic & Anthony's, Reef, Pappas Steahouse, Phoenecia(more casual) by the Toyota Center.

Tacos Tierra Caliente and West Alabama ice house is your best bet.

Taconazo is one of my favorites, but it's in an area that might make people uneasy. If you have a woman with you, don't even think about it. The guys at the adjacent tire shop are shameless and will stare so much that she'll be uncomfortable the whole time...I made this mistake once.

I'll second the suggestion of the best tacos being the food truck next to Alabama Ice House.

You ever been to Springbok?

It is a South African Sports Bar. It is right next to Flying Saucer.

I loved the place. You are the most versed food and drink dude who chimes in these. You must weight tree-fiddy. Or your liver rides in a side car with you.

Anyway OP Springbok is excellent. Sports bar but fancy. Has about 1/3 of the beer that Flying Saucer has, which is a compliment. And they know their way around a cocktail.

It could have just been my bartenders SPECTACULAR rack and pleasant chit chat with the wife I.
