Dallas Recommendations

My son is going to hit Dallas tomorrow. Any recommendations on where to eat, drink craft beer and stay in Dallas?
I kind of f'd up his room in Memphis. I want to do better for Dallas. Need an area of town to stay, near some good craft beer/food options, and close to the Interstate on the way to Austin, the next day.
Yeah, I may be doing this all the way to San Diego.

If Zappas or anybody wants to have a beer with my boy, I'm sure he would be up for that...

Braindead Brewing in Deep Ellum
Meddlesome Moth in Oak Lawn
Goodfriend in East Dallas
The Libertine Bar or Blind Butcher on Lower Greenville
LUCK in Trinity Groves
All of those places have good food and a great selection of craft beer
Trinity Groves is a good area to checkout as they have several new restaurants all in one place. Four Corners Brewery is also one block over and they have a solid taproom.

Yes, and both have good food. But Pecan Lodge Barbecue, one of the top barbecue spots in Texas, is across the street from Braindead....so eat there.

None of them that great. Luck does have a pretty good beer selection.

Pretty avg. beer though.

Good places with good atmosphere and food. I think their beer selections are often not great though. It is hit or miss with them.
Lower Greenville is a good place to bar hop. You can hit Dallas Beer Kitchen, Bottle Shop (bar and bottle shop), Blind Butcher, Libertine and then maybe hit Truck Yard. Truck Yard is slim on the craft beer but usually has Community Mosaic IPA which is really good. But it is a really cool spot with a big outdoor seating area. You can eat at Blind Butcher (house made sausages and other meat stuff)or Libertine (basic but good pub food). There are several other bars and restaurants on lower greenville too.
I will add Strangeways for craft beer. The owner is a sour fan and so always has some interesting options on the board. It is a sort of dive place.
Also, Craft & Growler by Fair Park has a great selection....maybe the best draft selection in Dallas but Meddlesome Moth usually has more whales. Its really just about a mile from Deep Ellum so an easy Uber.
Brewery taprooms ....breweries that have good beer IMO are Community Brewing, Texas Ale Project and Nobel Rey.
Get my ph# from Kim and I will help anyway I can.
ETA: Hotels downtown would be convenient to everything....Hotel Indigo is a good one. You would have to drive or Uber to the places I mentioned but it wouldn't be more than a 5-10 minute ride. Its easy access to I-35 but all the freeways and interchanges downtown are under construction so its a mess.

I like Lower Greenville. HG Supply Co has a good roof top bar. There are other cool places around it as well. Truck yard is among my favorites
Braindead in Deep Ellum has like 30 beers on tap including its own.

I'm a big Dallas beer kitchen fan for craft beer. as far as hotels I mean there's the joule, zaza, and places like that but they are $300+ a night.

He's going to be doing Hotwire for a hotel room, so he'll know the area, but not the exact hotel.
He's coming down I30 and heading towards Austin on I35E. So something along that corridor would be good.
Zappas - I just spoke to him, and he'll be in San Antonio on Tuesday night. Any suggestions, for there?

30 and 35 come together downtown. Like I said, tell him to be ready for a cluster f*ck on 30 and 35 downtown because of all the construction. There are some white knuckle lane changes to get to exits and interchange ramps. And some exits are completely closed.

I haven't been to San Antonio in at least 10 years.....no real reason to go there. I'm sure others on here will have better recs than I could give. Freetail brewing does good stuff but they are on the outskirts of SA.

I'm looking at the Mesquite/Garland area for Hotwire. Are any of the places you recommended a quick Uber from there?
He's only going to San Antonio because he has a friend that he's staying with in Austin on the 22nd, and he needs to kill a day before going there. He might just stay an extra day in either Dallas or Austin, instead of going to SA. I'm thinking Austin might be a good bet.

You know Austin pretty well, right? My son's buddy in Austin just moved there last week, so I suspect he doesn't know the are that well, either.
I think I'll have him get a room in Dallas, first, and then I'll shoot you an e-mail asking where the best craft beer options are from his hotel. Trying to tie it all together without knowing where he'll be staying is tough.
Hotel rooms right downtown are expensive. The Navy gave him a lump sum to move, so whatever he doesn't spend on hotel rooms, he gets to keep - so he's looking to get rooms on the cheap.

Market center area is not a bad place for rooms. There is a Sheraton suites there, and a coupe of the smaller Marriott properties. Also check the downtown crowne plaza.
Advise to not get rooms in garland or mesquite if you don't have to.
Deep Ellum is a great spot for food and drink as many above have said.
