I'll be in Cozumel in 2 weeks from now as a port of call. We plan to walk around in the AM then eat a nice lunch around 11 somewhere, then snorkel in the afternoon. Any recommendations for lunch in Cozumel. Doesn't have to be anything too fancy as we'll probably be in swimsuits and flip flops.

Used to be an Alberto's down near the port. That being said I've only eaten at his place on the beach down the road in the middle of no where. Was pretty good. Had his own boats for his seafood.

Don't think there is too much you can't do in Cozumel in a bathing suit. It's been a few years since I've been though.

Other than Carlos and Charlie's type places, what else is there? I don't recall anything when I was down there near the port

Our first time there we went to Carlos and Charlie's. We not doing that again.

Second time we did an all inclusive. Not doing that again.

Third time we rented a taxi all day and tools us all over the island, had a great time.

This time we plan to shop a little then eat. Then do a little snorkeling.

Screw eating at anyplace in town like Carlos and Charlies. You might as well eat at Applebees.

Rent a jeep. Drive to the southern tip of the island and when the road turns on itself park and head into the palapa hut. It's called Rastas aka Freedom in Paradise Bar & Grill. The food is cheap and authentic and very good and the drinks are cheap and good. The beach out back is gorgeous and while rough the water is nice and pretty.

We go there every time we're on Cozumel and it has never disappointed. The last time six of us ate and drank for three hours and the bill was under $100.

The best place I ate in Mexico was in Cozumel. If you take the road to the other side of the island (only one road in middle of island to other side) you will see two small stalls one is called "the Mexican Target) you take a right at the Target and go down to the next catina. It's located with a cove next to it.
They constantly bring live fish and lobster around and you just pick out the one you want. Fish lobster and two margaritas was $20. Place had no name, and no electricity.

Awesome experience.

If that is the place next to the Mexcian Target it's excellent as well. They didn't have lobster at the time and they sent us to the other place that did. I agree with your post though, go local for sure out there.

Could be as there is no electricity. They run a generator and cook on hot plates. The beer is cold and the drinks are good.

We went to La Mission last time there at the recommendation of our scuba guy. It did not disappoint.

AKA Bob Marley Bar... This place is the best hidden gem in Cozumel. Cold beer and great ceviche. Don't judge a book by the cover...

My recommendation is Casa Denis, the oldest restaurant in Cozumel. It is inexpensive and the food is very good. It's also quite easy to get to from the port, within walking distance. When you get off the ship all you do is walk to the giant flagpole (you'll see it) and then take a right, into town. You can't miss it.

My son tells me you can get weed at the store across the street. Supposedly.

There was a restaurant called Pancho's Backyard (no connection to the American Pancho's, I promise) that was in the port. It was very good. Not at all a Carlos N Charlies type experience.

Los Dorados restaurant. On the right down from the cruise just past all the tourist trap shops.

It's been a few years, but we ate at Kinta in Cozumel and it was really good. LINK

Edit: FYI...I just looked at the menu and those prices are in Peso's. It really wasn't expensive.

I think that is the place we ate at many years ago. It was just off a big plaza in front of a bank or government building.

I remember being on the plaza, and a dude in a suit with a briefcase handcuffed to his arm like some James Bond shite walked by at a brisk pace headed for that building. He was accompanied by a uniformed cop or soldier who was carrying an AK-47. We gave them a wide berth.

Over there you are looking for atmosphere. Pancho's Back Yard is pretty good and you sit in a nice patio.
