I have only had it (or variations like quail) at more upscale places but I really like it. Fried chicken with a beignet would be awesome.

Chicken and waffles is bulky and difficult to eat.

In as much as an open face sandwich is, or if you roll over and eat like a sandwich, any sandwich. I don't see that at all.

I don't like sandwiches with bones in them.

Meet me at the IHOP and I'll treat you as long as you show up with honey mustard sauce.

The pics LL posted were not tenders or boneless.

Gladys and Rons here in ATL are not boneless.

If it was tenders, it would make sense to me.

BUT, if it's tenders or boneless breasts, don't market it as "fried chicken and waffles."

I understand that tenders are chicken that is fried, but everyone understands that "fried chicken" is not tenders.

I think the dish is referred to as simply chicken and waffles, not fried chicken and waffles, but fried chicken doesn't necessarily have to have bones in it. It's simply chicken that's fried regardless of bones or boneless.

That being said, I don't know I want to work around bones either. Never had it that way, and I fail to see the purpose in it at all as it adds very little but an obstacle you have to overcome when eating such a dish.

Ah c'mon. Who would order fried chicken and think they were getting boneless chicken? No one.

eta: gotta go do some work. Will fight about chicken and waffles later.

Someone going to Canes or maybe Chic Fil a? Dunno. I've never see it advertised as fried chicken and waffles. Maybe that's an Atlanta thing. I guess that's a question for the server with contemplating ordering chicken and waffles.?.?

I saw a really good take on chicken and waffles at a party recently:

Make mini-eggo waffles, pour syrup on them, place a chick fil a chicken nugget on top of the waffle, toothpick to hold it all together.

Was a pretty big hit as an appetizer.

If you are sitting around with someone and they say, "I could really go for fried chicken" they aren't talking about Chic Fil A or Canes.

with all dishes there are variations

the first time I tried it was at Surrey's on Magazine and they had a pan fried boneless chicken breast with belgian waffles. Crispy waffles, crispy chicken, a bit of syrup all around.. was delicious.

Unfortunately it was a special item and I never saw it on the menu again.

I've also had Big Momma's in New Orleans and they do it with wings... their waffle wasn't as good as surrey's but the chicken was pretty tasty. Just don't get sauced wings, that'll ruin the waffle quickly.

Bread for a sandwich is more practicality than anything. It holds the ingredients together & acts as a filler.
