Planted a Cherokee for the 1st time this year after reading some post on here. Just sliced up the 1st one for a burger. Think I've found my new favorite.

Makes the whole kitchen smell like a spring fresh tomato.

I sliced one last night and had it on bunny bread, blue plate mayo, salt and pepper.

Then I made a second one. I've got about 10 plants.

It's def my favorite. Hard to grow consistently year after year but when they produce, it's worth the time and effort.

This is good to hear. I have 2 planted and a bunch of other random tomatoes. The weather around here kept knocking them back but they finally took off a few weeks ago. Hopefully getting ripe within the next couple of week.

I love the things. I've got 3 plants. The worst looking of all my tomato plants. Probably have about 12 tomatoes total between the 3. One of which got picked yesterday and will get annihlated tonite.

I just ate a big one with olive oil, salt and pepper.

The olive oil I use is California Olive Ranch (extra virgin). It's very good and available at Walmart.

Also, Dad made a homemade thousand island dressing that goes good with them too.

Paul Robeson is another good purple. I've never seen the plants for sale... it's worth starting from seed.

How much do these produce on a good year per plant? The Cherokee's that is.

It is a great tomato if not for the low yield.

I found some Cherokee/Carbon hybrids which are alleged to produce a more consistent yield.

Will report back with data & results.

I switched to Black Krim and Paul Robeson. Similar taste, but much more productive.

I took 3 off and probably have 30 on it right now. I planted a Creole and Cherokee at the same time. The Cherokee bush is 3-4 time s bigger with that many more tomatos right now.

Two of my 6 are Cherokee and they are definitely my favorites. Next year I'll have more. For the last two weeks I've had a BLT every single day for lunch. Love it.

I had better luck with the Black Krim, too. Cherokee never produced much for me, over 3-4 seasons of trying. (Edited to correct autocorrect's foolishness.)

I planted Cherokee Carbon, Carbon and Chocolate Cherry last year. Did not have much production... the wilt got them before they could ripen.

I like Cherokees but the plants just don't produce enough so I didn't plant any this year. I've 44 plants in 10 pots this year and have picked 110 tomatoes so far (> 40 lbs). They taste great and make great puree for freezing and sauces down the road.

I can't say that I have tried a Cherokee tomato before. Have to add that to the bucket list. My neighbor has 4 nice looking tomato plants he called a Brandy Wine tomato. They aren't ripe yet but I'm going to see what his raving is all about because he sure likes them.

If we are talking other tomatoes, Golden Queen is very good. Yield is low, but they are medium to large tomatoes and they look great. Birds don't seem to eat them either.
