Googled it. Do we have many industry people who are certified? Does it really mean much?

I am a certified beer server which is level 1. It is a test that makes sure you habe a grasp on beer styles, proper handling, knowledge of the 3-tier and beer law, etc. It's a 75 question multiple choice test you take online

The 2nd level, certified cicerone, is much more difficult. It involves a 100 question (I think) test, a blind tasting to determine off flavors and a few other hands on items.

If you pass the 2nd level, you def. Know what you are doing.

Yeah, we will need for you all to keep these certifications, real or not, on the down low. The anti beer maven folks will lose their shite over this kind of stuff. LOL

Certified beer server here. Beer Savvy is a pretty cool course, especially if you're interested in the history of the different styles of beer, etc.

My bro is taking it next week. He works at a brewery and is trying to make a career of it. He has been studying pretty hard for the last few weeks. 150 questions and they are all written, not MC, so you really have to know it. And then as said earlier, a taste test.

Pretty awesome.

I wish I had the time to dedicate to something like this.
The homebrew club was offering a several month training program to be a beer judge. Seemed like that would have been pretty kick arse too.
Not sure if I'm ever going to be a good enough "taster" to go that far, but I love learning about all things beer.

That's pretty awesome. I havent looked at any material, but I did here about the format for the level 2 and thought it sounded pretty difficult.

Also, I'm pretty sure your younger brother and I graduated HS together, steakbomb.

I know a few people who've taken the second level cicerone exam and only one passed. All said it was extremely difficult.

The BJCP beer judging exam is structured similarly to cicerone.

First part is 200 question online multiple choice.

Second part is a tasting only exam.

Third part is an essay exam and you can only take if you score 80 or above on part 2 AND have the required judging experience points. Your cumulative score on parts 2 and 3 have to be 80 or higher to be considered a national judge.

I read an article about the Round Bar here in S'port. It said the owner "has earned credits to become a Guild Sommieler for his knowledge of wine and also the Cicerone designation for his expertise in beer."
