I'm driving in from Austin Texas tommrrow and it has been a very long time since the wife or I had good cajun food. Does anyone know of anything that is cant miss along i-10 of thereabouts. I was thinking we will eat around Lafeyette but open. My original thought from reading some other stuff was Prejeans. I've never been but read good reviews. Any suggestions are appreciated and thanks for the help. Also I guess I'm looking for a good atmosphere as well. I know the best cajun might be found in a little hole in the wall but I'm looking for a good restaurant atmosphere with a little entertainment as well.

Prejeans would be a great place for you to stop. Good seafood, excellent chicken and sausage gumbo. Many good appetizers and their bread pudding is top notch. It's off a 1-49, just a few miles north of I-10.

I must have hit them on a bad night......i tried them once and it was horrible.....I have heard from a lot of folks that they changed chefs a few years ago and have really went downhill...

Prejean's has fallen off a good bit in terms of the food from what it used to be, in my opinion. But if you're looking for atmosphere/entertainment, Prejean's is still well above average in the area and you will be able to catch some live Cajun music there.
I've heard many good things about Poor Boy's Riverside Inn, but I haven't had the chance to eat there yet.

Prejeans is OK if you stick to the gumbo or fried food.
It is a neat experiance for an out of towner,
But there is much better food in the area.

This.
If you don't know your way around Laffy, this is your best bet. Not to mention some of the best food and atmosphere in the area.

Was at Prejean's two weeks ago and it was real good. I had heard they took a dip, but they're apparently back up.. it was crowded as usual.. i saw no problems. crawfish enchiladas, son

Soups in Maurice is the best. Just about 10 miles south of Laffy.

Andrew Zimmern ate there for a Bizarre Foods episode.

Mulate's in Breaux Bridge will give you the food and the atmosphere...you will need help understanding the waiter(yes that's the way they talk)...but the stuffed shrimp is great...and you can use your Texas Two Step on the dance floor.
