Went to dinner tonight with a friend and as usual with him we ended up at Burger Smith. I enjoy a good burger on occasion but it seems to me that there will soon be an over saturation of these specialty burger joints. They continue to open with another being built on Seigen now. Do you believe this is a trend or will be around for the long haul.

It kind of seems like the craze stopped last year for N.O. I can't see a ton of new placing opening these days.

Beer and burgers are the sushi and Brazilian steakhouses of the 90's. Just another crazy fad.

I think it's a fad but apparently people eat a lot more burgers than I do. Don't get me wrong, I love a good burger. But it's just a burger.

For me, I can eat a burger and beer at a lot of places that I find to be a damn good burger. Sammys, George's, etc.

I've noticed my "trendy" friends like these fancy burger joints. They are also the ones that like avacDo and jalapeños on their burgers.

We grill burgers at home in the summer about once a month, and they are great. I've never had one at any restaurant that was really worth a damn. That said, I pretty much quit ordering them at restaurants years ago because they always sucked.

Maybe these fancy places do better now. I did try one at Twisted Root a while back. Overcooked and dry as cardboard.

I literally thought you were referencing Burger Joint, a small no frills burger, fries, and beer franchise in Manhattan. I see people eating the Five Guys and Smash Burger places more and more because it's a step above fast food and people are willing to fork over the extra dollars for quality.

Wellll then, I'm gonna certainly respect the opinion of a burger conny sewer on the food board that eats 3-4 a year of his own and refuses to try anything else, cause they're gonna be dry as cardboard.
I'm never trying another one !!

That bubble HAS to pop soon. They're EVERYWHERE in Birmingham. Mooyah, Five Guys, Jack Brown's, Flip, Mugshots, Paramount, Baja Burger, and The Depot plus your run-of-the-mill fast food places like Milos, Jack's, McDonalds, Burger King, and Wendy's.

How many fricking burgers can people eat in a week?

I can't find the value in a 10 buck burger, especially one that i can make at home on the cast iron.

Ftr, i think it is a repeat of the original burger movement (mcd, bk, wendy, krystal, etc). The quality of the traditional ff burger disappeared leaving an opening in the industry for a real burger. That is why you see angus burgers at mcd. They are trying to capture that audience again, but i think it is too late. They are already thought of as ff garbage burgers by many.

I gave the restaurants 30 years or so before I gave up on them. I did give one a try recently, and the burger was dry as cardboard. But I'm not trying to talk you into anything. That's just my observation. You eat all the restaurant burgers you want. I won't complain.
