Was advised to go there by a friend. So, I figured I would try it.* I didn't eat anything Italian, so just treat this simple review as a steak and atmosphere review.

Busy, busy place in a busy part of town, of course. The place was pretty full and the atmosphere was very similar to the Mac Grille...a tad nicer. The waitstaff were well dressed and attentive. Our waiter was pretty thorough and friendly. No problems there. The tables seemed to have the proper amount of space between them, so no conversations wee overheard.

I ordered the filet...medium rare. Came with potatoes and green beans. I wanted to try and app, but the bread (which was average) sufficed. The filet was cooked properly and seasoned decently and was the perfect temp for a medium rare order. That said, it wasn't the best steak, nor one of the best steaks in the BR area, as I was told that it was. It was pretty solid, though. It just had something missing and I can't put my finger on it. The portion size was perfect - not too much and not too little. The potatoes, though, tasted a little bland and were very much like instant kind. They were edible. The green beans tasted seasoned in butter and that was about it. That was my meal...decent steak and average sides.

The wine - Pinot Grigio - was tasy (and I cannot remember what kind it was, but it was about 35 bucks for a bottle). The only other person who I can remember what he/she ordered was my dad, who got the scallops on a bed of vegetables or something of the like. He said, "Not bad...had better."

BRAVO, summed up, is a step above Mac Grille and Caraba's as far as atmosphere and food quality. As I said, I didn't go into the place, thinking I was at a 5 star premier place. I was hoping it would be a good experience and overall, I'd say it was good. The food needs more flavor and the steak - again, it's an enigma and I will figure it out later.

Overall rating - 6.6 out of 10. Strengths - Service, atmosphere, and portion sizes. Weaknesses - seasonings, lack of variety and creativity with side items.

I wouldn't say that, unless the BR Bravo has food that is twice as good as the Metairie and Louisville locations.

Carabba's are usually consistently pretty good for what they are. Bravo seems to always have something that is a little off or wrong, as you experienced in your dinner.

not sure about the rest of the menu...

but the filet a carrabas is surprisingly good. it is better than bravo for sure.

pis....you should discuss with your friend his recommendation, that was not a very good one at all. we have beaten steaks to death on this board, but i wouldnt put bravo in the top 20. you might wanna rethink listenin to that cat!

The filet at Caraba's is hit or miss, from what I have been told. My old man is a steak lover and the first time he went to Carraba's, he swore it was one of the three best steaks he ever had. They cooked the outside to almost a perfect crisp - how he likes it. He went back two weeks later and the filet was nothing even remotely similar to what he had tried the first time. He tried it again and did not like it. In fairness, I have never ordered a steak there. It appears, though, that the first steak he had there that he loved, was accidentally overcooked just a tad, which he likes in his meat. Some steaks, in fact, do taste better when they're cooked longer and this from a guy who likes his steak nearly rare.

He missed with this one, but no one's going to get 'em all right. To be honest, I'd eat that steak again, I just might alter it a bit and eat some with the gorg on it or maybe even get it cooked slightly more. Steaks vary like no other main dish can...and it seems too simple to cook one well.

I know the many of you who eat at Commander's and August on a monthly basis will shun me for even talking about this place, but I will probably go back and get something else. There are definitely more overrated places in BR than BRAVO. Hell, there are three restaurants within walking distance and view of it that are more overrated.

*FWIW, my dad asked me how it stacked up to a place like Copeland's and I told him that Copeland's garlic filet was better. So, there ya go. Not a great steak at all. Not bad at all. I was impressed with the accuracy of the way they cooked how I wanted it. It was just the taste...nothing to die for.

I actually like Bravo more than carabbas... I get the chicken parmesan or the lasagnia. Excellent bread.

my mother and brother went to bravo last night.....brother got chicken alfredo....mom got a spicy shrimp dish in a tomato sauce (she didnt remember name, waitress suggested it)

he liked the chicken alfredo....she wasnt crazy about the other.

6 of us went the week before they opened....were given 3 appetizers, a soup, a salad, all different entrees to try....

i will admit, i do like the place....but i thought the steak i had a carrabas was better.

agreed, I prefer Carabba's over Bravo after having both at least twice each.

Gotten alfredo at Carabbas and was pleasantly surprised. Pasta VERY fresh. Had pasta Woozie at Bravo and although it wasn't bad, I am much more pleased with the fresh pasta at Carabba's.

I will never order a steak at Bravo again. Ordered filet mid-rare, cooked mid-well and unseasoned. Just saying.
