The wife (no!) and I will be in Boston for my 50th birthday, which will also be our 4th anniversary in early November. We are both history nerds and are doing a history tour of the east coast and halloween in salem. Can anyone suggest a good restaurant in Boston with a historical vibe?

With a historical vibe? Not sure what you mean here.

Not sure about the historical aspect but Neptune Oyster is about as good as it gets in my opinion. Lobster roll hot with butter is rather tasty.

By historical vibe- i mean a place where benjamin franklin ate, etc.

The only option then would be Union Oyster House. The food is meh, but it’s the country’s oldest restaurant so in that respect it fits what you’re looking for. But frankly I’d eat dinner elsewhere and get your history on the freedom trail at Green Dragon
Next door is the country’s oldest bar (Bell in Hand) but I would recommend going right across the cobblestone street the Green Dragon. Lots of revolutionary War stuff on the wall and there’s some neat history behind it because it’s where the Sons of Liberty met to plan the revolution.

Go out to Concord and have a drink at that famous minute man bar ... that's the closest you may get.
Go eat at Sarma

That’s a good spot to have a well earned beer after finishing the Freedom Trail

They claim to be the oldest bar, with Washington, Franklin, etc dining in.... the burger was pretty legit as well

Get a couple cannoli at Mike's Pastry and eat them in Rachel Revere Square across the street from Paul Revere's house. Bada-boom bada-bing. Two birds with one stone!
