Looking at a trip to Boston in October.

Any restaurant or local beer/brewery recommendations?

I tried searching the board, but searching for "Boston" turns up a few hundred smoker threads.

TIA

Go to travel board or search for Boston . Abita gave me a bunch of ideas when we went in June .

Went last August... only spent a few days, but had a great time.

Downtown area, I'd recommend the Tip Tap Room.

Cambridge area, hit up Lord Hobo.

Harpoon was much better . Travel to Woburn and go to lord hobo tour and it's as much free beer as you can drink .

Got your e-mail, responded with the guide I wrote. But I can defintely help with the beer and food recs too.

J Murdah is good people, and he's right about Trillium. But I would HIGHLY recommend skipping the Sam Adams tour. Harpoon is much easier to get to, the beer is better, and they have homemade pretzels with dipping sauces made from the beer.

Other breweries of note: Aeronaut, Night Shift, Dorchester Brewing Company (brand new spot - pretty legit), Lord Hobo, and Idle Hands.

If you like Cider, there's also Bantam and Down East.

Oh, and for Trillium - try to get out to the one in Canton. The one in Boston is small and they don't actually have a tap room. You can only fill growlers and buy bottles/cans. The one in Canton is new and amazing.

I like free beer!

What about restaurants? Gonna hit up the usual review spots but I'm always open to personal recommendations.

Our favorite 2 places were Giacomo's on Hanover and Neptune Oyster on Salem.

Also did a Brewery Tour one night LINK. My favorite brewery was Nightshift.

Here are some threads to peruse:

I trust your judgement. When I traveled to Boston a few years ago I wasn't quite into the craft beer scene so I went to a familiar place. It is a bit of a walk after the subway ride.

I also tried several Lobster rolls, because Boston, and I do not recommend if you are from the South. I might be in the minority on that though, they tasted terrible

To each their own, I guess. I mean, I don't eat them often, but it's definitely something you have to try when you're up here.

Are they typically served cold?

Giacomos and Neptune in the North End for food

Trillium and Nightshift for breweries

O and Mikes or Modern Pastry for dessert

Ah, I see the problem here.

There are hot lobster rolls and cold lobster rolls. The cold ones are made with a mayo base - not my favorite.

But the hot lobster rolls are where it's at. Warm lobster meat covered in melted butter on a fresh roll. Hard to beat it.

So, basically what I'm saying is, you blew it.

Great recommendations, people. Thanks!

Already was planning to hit up Neptune Oyster Bar, and was probably going to seek out Union Oyster House for history's sake. And I'm intrigued by Toro and Table Season to Taste, going to look some more into them.

But I definitely do want to try a lobster roll... Sounds like I need to try one hot and one cold. Where is "the place" to try them?

The aforementioned Neptune Oyster House.

Table Season to Taste is amazing. My friend is actually the EC. He came in 4th place on the last season of Top Chef, which was really fun to watch. But really, if you're going to want to go there, make reservations ASAP. It's a really small place and it books pretty far in advance.

And Toro is out of this world too - Jamie Bissonnette (EC/part owner) is a James Beard Award winner.

Neptune Oyster Bar

This place has the best seafood I've ever eaten. It's fantastic.

The deal here is they don't take over the phone reservations so you have to put your name down in person. It's usually about an hour wait or so depending on when you're planning on eating. What we did is put our name down and then walked down the street to a bar and had a couple of drinks when they called us to let us know the table was ready.

Sounds like I have to try lobster roll from Neptune. But if it really is an elite seafood place, I don't want to just eat one thing... What other items have y'all had there that are worth noting?
