I like to go there to watch tax dollars pay for $100 worth of boiled jumbo crab legs with people using their Louisiana Purchase cards.

Yes, this is the norm at that place unfortunately. I have also seen many groups of 3 or more split 10 pounds on 3 different cards or cash. I try and stay away from it during the weekends at all cost.

Unfortunately, this is the norm at more than just there. Tony's keeps recently boiled crawfish in the cooler so they aren't considered 'hot' food and can sell them to the Louisiana Purchase customers. Kinda disappointing, as if Tony's needs the money, but it's probably required in that neighborhood.

Went for lunch today

Wasn't very impressed and they overcharged me but I didn't notice until I left.

Bun on my sandwich was hard as a rock

Wish I had seen this before we went for lunch yesterday.

Wife wanted to try it, was off with the kids, so we went. Like others have said, the seat yourself sign should have been the first warning.

Didn't take long to get drink orders though. Ambitious looking menu, but it sounded good. I notice that chargrilled oysters are $1 each on Tuesday. Sure, give us half a dozen as an app. My oldest wanted catfish Acadiana, the wife says she'll split that with her since it comes with 2 catfish filets. I order a shrimp poboy, and my youngest orders a kids shrimp basket.

Food actually comes out pretty quickly, but where are my oysters I ordered when we ordered drinks? Oh, it comes right after all our entrees are put on the table. Thanks.

I get my poboy, nice bread good size, 6, count 'em, 6 shrimp. Sorry, I expect 6 shrimp to fall off my poboy during the course of eating it. Not 6 shrimp total.

Youngest's "shrimp basket" consisted of 4 shrimp on top of a mound of fries. Really? 4 shrimp? That's not a basket.

The catfish Acadiana the wife and oldest were to split? One filet. The whole reason they ordered it was because it said it came with two filets. Summon waitress. "Oh, I entered it as the lunch size." WTF? We never saw a lunch menu. There was one menu, with one catfish Acadiana. Why the hell would you assume that we ordered a lunch size portion when there was no lunch menu given to us? They eventually gave us the other filet, but we had to take it to go since the wife had a work meeting to get to.

The fries were terrible. Just a mushy mess. Nobody liked them at all. Outside of the fries, the food was pretty good, just not much of it.

Fortunately I noticed that they tried to charge us full price on the oysters, when they were supposed to be $1 each.

Either way, nothing about this place will make me want to come back. I'm certainly not going to drive past Chimes East to go to Boil and Roux. Don't even get me started on the really shitty draft beer menu. It was a who's who of shitty macro lagers, with a Blue Moon thrown in for giggles.

My guess is that this place is closed by June.

A friend of mine went to pick up a to-go order and waited AN HOUR! Said the food was ok but who in the hell can afford to wait an hour for food on their lunch break?

Amazing. I guess, given this thread, its not a surprise tho.

Appears the Best Boiler & Boil n Roux folks need to find another industry. Wish them well, as they are persistant in their endeavors.

I went the other day mid afternoon when they weren't busy. I too got my entree before my grilled oysters. Food was decent, but the grilled oysters were way overcooked.

Circus mustache dude behind the bar made mistakes and desperately needs better training, but he was trying his best for the customers that were there while the rest of the staff, all females just stood around and chatted with each other or played on their phones.

Like most others in this thread, I don't have a good vibe about this place.

That's how I was overcharged as well

Got the $1 chargrilled oysters but was billed the regular price

$10.99 for 6 chargrilled oysters. That's a little high IMO

Okay wait. Did LA Purchase change? I used to work at a grocery store in high school, and they weren't even allowed to buy rotisserie chickens. Nothing hot.

Anyway, haven't read this thread because I figured it was just some random boiled seafood place by the title, but I passed it on my way to lunch today and saw it took over Portico. So that's when I checked out this thread.

Glad I didn't stop in since it seems no one has had a good experience.

In somewhat of a defense, this is the norm at plenty of places. Dempseys was always seat yourself. The viet joint I just had lunch was seat yourself.
That said, those places are much smaller than the old Portico.

Oh these are the same people who had Best Boilers? NOT THAT THERES ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT, but the only people I know who went there were my black girlfriends. I wasn't sure if there was something I was missing that none of my white friends ever went and no one on TD ever talked about it.

Yeah .. Circus mustache dude isn't lazy, just oblivious. Empty beer glasses just don't register .. But he does keep moving .. Unfortunately, he moves into the kitchen for 5 to 10 minute stretches often and returns empty handed ..

That's true, he did drift off several times. Also, the whole gang would stand in front of and stare at the register and were totally oblivious to anything around them. That really annoyed the shite out of me.

I wonder if a lot of the workers are family members or friends of the owner/manager. That might explain a lot.

In my perfect Coursey corridor world, Calendar's would reopen (their pasta jambalaya ), China Express across the street would go back to having the original owner. It was the best Chinese food in BR IMO. Now it's total crap. Outback started out as a pretty decent chain, but that's all changed big time. Semolina's would reopen, along with the Pizza Hut at Albertson's.

Agree with Calendar's...liked the Calendar's salad with fried chicken...but Al Noor is a massive upgrade from Pizza Hut, which was possibly the worst pizza place in town before it closed.
