I've never been to Blue Crab but give me a better option for a nice sunny Sunday spring afternoon.

I would certainly prefer grabbing some crawfish at Big Fisherman and running to the fly.

I would think Casamento's is better.

I didn't go to either of my graduations. For one I was in Costa Rica getting blotto, and for the other I was working in Santa Clara. My diplomas were mailed to my parents and they put them directly into their safe...I guess they paid for them and they wanted them as a keepsake. I had to get duplicates from LSU. Pretty funny. Kinda pissed though, my physics diploma just says bachelor of science. All that partying and it doesn't even have my major on it. Should just say...the degree of staying up all night.

A picnic ? I like the fly and all but you can't compare the two.

Great food, but I don't want to spend a nice sunny afternoon in a bathrom

Why not?

Why is sitting in a restaurant preferable?

Isn't Blue Crab primarily selling it's location?
Surely not their mediocre gumbo the OP discussed.

Is there really a point to this around here?
This is the food board, not the O-T.

a decent West End place to eat Seafood

I live around the corner. This is how I would characterize the Blue Crab.

I like sitting on the balcony. they should have put more tables out there.

There is definitely an elevator.

Have you even eaten at the Blue Crab yet?

Not yet.

Had Brisbi and was unimpressed. My parents enjoy meeting in that area. Don't think I'll be getting to Blue Crab anytime soon.

I hope the streets from Metairie to the Lakefront are in good shape. I feel the vast majority of their clientele will be from Jefferson Parish.

What the frick does this even mean?

He is saying a lot of say brahs will be at Blue Crab and Brisbi's and someone living uptown doesn't want to mix with that clientele.

Sad about the "class distinction" comments. Don't want to open that can of worms here, but I'll go to any restaurant anywhere, regardless of the "clientele." I grew up in a dirt poor family and neighborhood and, well, I’m no longer there.

Gee, about the only things that I consider when choosing restaurants is location (ease of getting there and parking), general theme of their food (ethnic, "Creole,” Steak, etc.), and, prices. Long as lead is not flying and Mr. Montezuma hasn’t been there lately, I’m in.

Meh, just blow it off. 90% of that kind of crap around here is good natured fun.
I think Mike Da Tigha is the only one that truly flips out about shite on the food board.

Eat what you like and please post back your reports for us. We need all of the reviews we can get.
I thought Blue Crab was ok, but like Brisbi's, I wasn't in a hurry to get back anytime soon.

Happy to state I wasn't making a class distinction.

I honestly believe most people in New Orleans are unlikely to travel out to the Lakefront to eat there.

It's more big fish small pond theory with proximity thrown in.
Sorry if it was misinterpreted.

Nearly my entire family lives in either Kenner or Metairie. I am not casting aspersions on them or any JP residents.

Hi No Tiger. Not flippin' out at all. Maybe a little "emotion sticker" would help with such comments (winky face?).

This is a fun board. I'll probably start hitting more new restaurants just to post here and get y'all's comments on the places. I DO so much want to be like my idol, Mr. Tom Fitzmorris.

We went to the Blue Crab yesterday at my kids request. As stated earlier in the thread, the location is the selling point. I found the food to be even more average than my first visit many months ago.
Pretty bland and poorly cooked fried fish and shrimp. Kind of slow with the service and food too.
If you can't get the fried seafood correct, that is kind of a black eye considering what kind of place they are shooting to be.

Couple behind us were bitching quite a bit about how long it took for charbroiled oysters to come out. When they finally got them, they ate some and ended up calling the manger over for a visit. Seems they were full of shell pieces and most were over cooked to the point of being burnt.
Other table next to us were complaining about slow service too.

They do have a small bar area next to the main bar for raw oysters and they now have a bar open downstairs with seating. The downstairs bar was pretty busy.

We had tried to go Thursday evening after work, but they were full and on a 45 minute wait.
