We're on our way to spend the weekend in Houston and are looking for somewhere to eat Tex-Mex/Mexican tonight. Any suggestions?

Keep in mind this answer will vary because everyone has their favorite place.

And do you want nice mexican or greasy hole in the wall but good mexican?

We're staying in downtown but we don't really mind driving to one of the suburbs.

Downtown, if you want to go to a somewhat nice place with really good food try Cyclone Anaya's, and get the lobster enchiladas. There's one in Midtown and another one off I-10 at Shepard.

You'll never be disappointed with the fajitas at Lupe Tortillas. Best fajitas ever. But only go for the fajitas. Hit up another Mexican spot for other Tex Mex cravings.

I couldn't help but think that this is like asking "where is the best Italian, in Italy"

I understand what you are asking... just picking.

Yea but I've only been to Houston a handful of times in my life. If it's all so great, are there certain places we should avoid?

There's one on Richmond and Kirby my friend works at. No reason to go all the way out to Hillcroft.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. We ended up at Cyclone Anayas because the lobster enchiladas sounded pretty good and they were great! We're moving to Houston in the next few weeks so we look forward to trying out the rest of these. Thanks again!

Chuy's! Food is excellent, the atmosphere hilarious. There are several in Houston. So wish they would expand to BR.

Natalita's. They bring 3 different dips to the table, big menu but I always order the pollo con mole :mouthwatering:

I'll take anyplace with a good mole (I guess mole isn't officially tex mex is it?)
