Saw this - Yahoo bacon story - and got to wondering which bacons peeps recommend. My current favorite is Niman Ranch - very smoky and just plain good.

What are you favorites (and where do you buy them)?

I buy the 5lb. box of ends and pieces. Use the good stuff for BLT's, etc. and the fatty stuff for seasoning..

i like the oscar meyer in the plastic containers. they're not too fatty but not too meaty. and i really like the containers. just take what you want and then close it back. and they're usually 2 for 6 bucks.

This.
I only buy the 'center cut' pack. It's the leanest bacon I've ever found.

I was told at the camp this weekend that bacon is its own food group. We got some real bacon fans up there!

Does store bought include having it sliced at the butcher shop? Because if so, the the best is found at the butcher shop.

Wrights is good and if you shop at Albertson's the bacon in the meat case is Wrights that they buy in bulk and sell it cheaper than the Wright's packaged. Good stuff.

It depends on your life style. I'm almost 60 and I live on a lake and spend a lot of the summer in a swim suit. If you don't mind being fat, go for it.

I would mind being fat and I do what I need to do to make sure I'm not fat. Bacon is just one of those things that I prefer to eat it just on occasion and have it be fatty vs. being able to eat it more often and chosing a leaner variety.
