My favorite steak is the porterhouse at Doe's. Be aware that the atmosphere is not that of a "fancy" steakhouse.

Doe’s is underrated IMO and I also love the porterhouse. Chris’s Steak House is still my favorite in Baton Rouge.

Best prime rib in town, sure, that's J. Alexander's. But, best steak in town, no, that would not be a true statement.

I think this is a weekly thread here. But I love steak so no care.

Just don't take a woman to Doe's if you want her to enjoy herself. I don't know what it is about that place but every female I have eaten there with despised it despite the passable food.

As for your question, Ruth's (even though some FDB people hate it) and the very underrated Flemings. I wish there was a hidden gem local place but there isn't. I feel like Ruth's is local since I grew up eating at the original but to most it is a big chain. Does would fit the bill but see above. They also don't blow me away with their sides. Not as far as being steakhouse sides anyway.

Ruth's slightly over Flemings, IMO

Stabs in Central has a fantastic Cajun New York Strip, served in a black skillet. Delicious. Comes with a vegetable.

The smoked prime rib there is pretty good but not as good as the strip.

Plenty of other options there as well, never had anything less than a great meal.

Was at Ruffino's last week and they advised the dry aged Ribeye isn't available indefinitely. Their supplier quit selling it and they can't find anyone new to fill the gap.

AND who downvoted my prior post? I swear I have a TD stalker out there. All I said was that I actually like Ruth's and women I have taken to Doe's didn't like it. Damn.

This.

Personally, I've never had a bad steak at Flemings.

It is great. Unfortunately it's pretty much the only one.

RC has the best steaks in town in my opinion.

They don't do it anymore.

I had the regular ribeye at Ruffino's and it was quite boring. And served with potatoes without even a speck of salt or pepper on them.

My vote is Ruth's. If you get the asparagus, ask them to grill it. Not advertised on the menu, but way better than steamed.

I haven't had Doe's (yeah, we all know my SO hates it), but I've heard it is good. Because it is your birthday, you can get away with choosing whatever you want so it's a good time to choose Doe's if that is what you want. Like others said, they have picnic tables and it is casual atmosphere, so it doesn't fit into your "nice night out" requirement.

I'm taking Fleming's over Ruth's Chris.

Doe's is a notch below, but still satisfying when I just want to chow down on some medium rare beef.
