It's been about three years since I started this and here's an update from those I've personally eaten:

1) Teets (had it for the first time about 3 weeks back and the hype is not misplaced. The gold standard.)
1a) Rabideaux's (My go to since it's only 2 miles south of I-10 and easy to pick-up on my way back to TX. Great store/service and not far behind Teets in taste.)

2) Jacob's andouille, LaPlace, LA

For non-meat market sausages:
Manda - gets lots of hate but it does have a smooth mesquite flavor that I like.
Rouse's - biggest surprise; grocery store brand but a solid product.
Savoies - biggest disappointment. Has the pedigree but disappointed in its flavor.

These are ok but I wasn't impressed:
Double-D
Conecuh
Carolina Pride

Always enjoy hearing others opinions and recs.

I can get Rabideaux's in Mecca. It's far and away the best I can get up here. Love the smoke in it.

Double D is my favorite of the non-meat market. surorised you aren't impressed by it. Did you use the regular or hot?

Down Home makes a pretty solid commercial smoked sausage. The green onion is a good product.

Didn't comb through the thread but if Uncle Jack D hasn't posted, the answer is Teet's. bookmark UJD for any questions concerning coonass cooking. You will not fail

Double D is ok. I certainly didn't mean to sound critical of anyone else's preference. My law of taste is that if you like it, then it's good. I like Manda but I doubt I'll get many on this site to agree with me. IMO, it has a little more smoke flavor than.some of the other store sold brands.

I also think the meat market sausages are so much better than the rest that its not even fair to compare them.

this thread was about sausage for red beans right?
I don't cook sausage in my beans
I go with smoked hocks or necks in the pot then a griddled hot sausage patty to go on the plate
