2023 "Best Tacos at a Local Restaurant" Gov't Taco already got the axe two weeks ago.

2023 "Best New Restaurant" and 5th in voting for "Best BBQ" is shutting down now.

Looking at the rest of the results, some are debatable but there are some inexcusable winners:

Best Coffee Menu - CC's

Best Po-Boys - Po-Boy Express

Best Mexican - Superior Grill

Best Bar at a Local Restaurant - Superior Grill

Best Local Brewery - Tin Roof Brewing

I may not have the hottest opinion on food here but Lord have mercy a lot of these results are headscratchers.

Probably some ballot stuffing going on.
I hear Poboy Express is pretty solid though

Isn’t it from random people voting? People vote on the popular choice and the place they “think” is supposed to have the reputation of being the best.

It’s a fun popularity promotion they do. Don’t take it seriously and enjoy it.

Some of the winners some years felt like obvious pay for the win but if the public is truly voting on it, youre going to get some crappy winners.

Best Bar at a Local Restaurant - Superior

Nothing about this is inexcusable. Considering the runner ups. Its arguably the best bar considering your age and reason for going to the bar.

quote:

RUNNERS UP
The Chimes 13.7%

Olive or Twist 11.8%

BLDG 5 9%

Soji: Modern Asian 8.8%

Olive to me is a bar with a restaurant attached to it. Chimes bar is overrated. The other two are too small.

French Market bistro has a bar worthy of the list. Mansurs could also be on there.

I’ve said it on here before.

It 100% is paid for. If you don’t advertise with them, they will not put you on the ballot.

Worked at a place for years that saw it happen when we cut out advertising dollars with them then get completely left off balloting when we stopped all together

The exact same with "Best of Acadiana" in Lafayette. You gotta sign a whopping big $$$ advertising deal. All about the money!

Did Burger King win an award too? Maybe slowest service award.

What kind of bread do they use here? I've had it a few times and don't claim to be a Po-Boy expert, but it seems to not be the traditional french bread that is at other places.

I enjoy Po-Boy Express, but I have no idea what a good or bad po-boy is. I've had Darrell's in LC and thought it was nothing special.

A lot of these awards are probably done by local Facebook moms who have only ever been to the restaurants mentioned above for the last 20-30 years.

Dearman's being in the final results for hamburgers is another crock of shite.

Y'all really underestimate the taste of the general public voting in these polls.

Some minivan mom that's never been to JED's, but sees 3 Poboy Express locations while hauling little Jaxton to travel ball practice will vote for Poboy Express.

Most people don't venture out of their comfort zone, so they don't know what else is out there.

Last time I went to Dearman's the cook on the grill grabbed raw hamburger meat and slapped 20 patties on the grill and used the same glove to grab a handful of fries which I saw go to a table. I told the waitress and she just said "it happens."

Now think about all the restaurants where you can't see the kitchen.

It’s best we don’t discuss that.

Who's better than CCs?

Poboy express is pretty good. But i can agree with this.

What's wrong with superior grill? Their food is phenomenal, as well as their atmosphere. Tho people complain about their prices a lot. Who has better mexican in BR?? and as far as restaurant bars, there isn't another restaurant in BR that even comes close to superior on highland.

It's been a while, but I think they use the same bread as AM Mart, which would be Wayne's Bakery. Though lately I've seen them advertising St. Bruno bread, so maybe they made a change to a new local provider.

Not really. Those who advertise/pay 225 tend to get awards. Purely a coincidence.

Magpie

CC's is nothing more than Starbucks with a Southern twist. Neither are terrible, but it's no way in hell #1.

Atmosphere is fun and noisy. Food is mid.

I absolutely agree that all those places are better than CC's. But with a CC's on every corner, more people that vote in these polls go there. That's why they win, not because CC's is spending money with 225 Magazine.

Same thing happens across multiple categories.
