I will be in Memphis this weekend and looking for a new BBQ place to try. We usually go to Central BBQ and it is always very good but we just want to try a new one this time.

I always go to corkys, is it the best? I have no idea but it is really good regardless.

I was at a festival in New Orleans last week and the guy from Central was very nice. I have only been to rendezvous and interstate. Rendezvous had good pulled pork when combining their Memphis slaw on it, but everything else was o.k. Interstate, well, i'll defer on commenting. Good luck

I didn't like Rendevous. The ribs were dry and chewy. Too much hype for that place. Not to mention it takes 2 hours to get a table. Overrated IMO

BBQ Shop and Central are far and away the best. Stay away from Corky's - I'm not a fan (their drummies are bad arse, though). The rendezvous is hit or miss - when it's on, it's very good, but it is so mass produced that sometimes you get some pretty dry meatless ribs. The commissary is good, but it's on the east side of town and is generally out of the way. Cozy Corner is a good place to go to as well - but is in a shady part of town. Payne's is also very good but is also in a shady part of town. If you want a quick drive through, you can hit up Top's - they're pretty good and all over town.

IMHO, though, BBQ shop is the best in town. Central a close second. And then everyone else.

Thanks everyone. This helps a lot. Looks like we'll be trying BBQ Shop.

The Commissary is legit. Also, Leonards is legit. Most people that talk on here about Memphis BBQ have never heard of the place, but it is up there with any of them.

We went to Interstate because we trusted Food network's site. I like just about any pulled pork on the planet but I will not be returning there.

I'm not sure why interstate gets the attention it gets, but it's not even top 10 (maybe even 15) in Memphis.

To put it simply, Interstate sucks. Owner is friendly and hands-on, but that's about the only thing it has going for it.
