Otis nailed it, IMO. I'm a big fan of boudin while on the road. I don't like to stop if I can help it, so boudin always makes for a quick, easy, and tasty fix.

Sorry you have to pass through my old stomping grounds.

Home of John Wayne Bobbit. Well, he was originally from Cutoff, but later moved to Dry Prong.

Winkface, you are responsible for this. You're an enabler.

Spirits in Alexandria has a big outdoor patio now, with fans and misters. Just park in the back, walk directly to the patio and tell them it's your service dog. Maybe trip over some stuff like you can't see.

In NorCal tons of restaurants are dog friendly. Waiters bring bowls of water and everyone fawns over the dogs. Pretty amusing.

Wait, you don't take 71 to North LA anymore ?

Damn I am old.

This means I would not go thru Bunkie ?
A whole new spin on North La for me.
If I could just get around Rapides parish I might could make it. Think I am still wanted there.

Lea's in Lecompte still open ?

You might need to look at the gas station snack food thread or be willing to eat in the car. There's a chicken place in Port Barre that's okay. I think it's Chicken King or something like that. I got some chicken there once. Better than most fast food joints. They had some other items, too, but I don't remember what they were.

Depending on your timing, you could jump off 49 and hit Lea's for some ham sandwiches. Easy to eat in the car. Or, you could just get off after Krotz Springs and go that way until you hit Lecompte. Speed limit is much lower, but it's faster. I've timed it. I hate 49. If I have to go that way, I go through Lecompte and Bunkie etc...

Lea's

Yep, but pies are $20 now.

I go Hwy 190 to Hwy 71 to Alexandria. From Alex to Ruston I take Hwy 167. Not much quality eating up that way. I do like Hickory Hut BBQ in North Hodge.

Great minds....

Mung, I don't care if the pies are 35 bucks. When I can get to Lea's and get a pie I like there, I'm buying it.

My mom, who is diabetic, demands that i bring her a pecan pie from Lea's anytime I go to BR. I remember them being $10 so it pains me to shell out $40-60 for pies for all my peeps.

i have travled this route to go hunting more times than i can count. either hit up southern fried chicken in jonesborro or the chicken inn in the small town that slips my mind before winnfield. your options are slim to know but both those places have awesome chicken..

It's a good kind of pain, though. I'm willing to bear it.
