That's what makes it so sad. This isn't a huge deal in Nebraska. But a couple hours from the Gulf coast? That's a fricking joke.

There are some legit Louisiana tilapia farmers, with standards and no risk of the invasive fish getting in local waters. Jolie's in Lafayatte at one point served local farm raised tilapia, but it doesn't look like they do now. But I guarantee all BR tilapia comes off the Sysco truck straight from China

Oh and on the "on the coast" argument. Go down to the coastal towns, and ask where they procure their fish and shrimp at most restaurants. Youuuu got it. Sysco frozen. And these guys are literally on the water.

I don't think this dude misses a chance to piss on BR. Somebody did him wrong when he was here. It's old and tiresome and I still don't know why I get caught in these threads. Guess I can't help it either.

Just like the other half of the Nola tards in this thread that take every shot they can at BR. It's old and tiresome and I still don't know why I get caught in these threads. Guess I can't help it either

This wasn't meant as a BR bashing thread, just as a Mestizo's, Monjuni's, Bonefish, and Serrano's bashing thread.

Yeah...But it was inevitable with that title.

Tilapia is something I would eat at home in a fix. It's cheap, and when US farm raised, good for you. I don't mind having it in fish tacos somewhere designed for college kids like Serranos. Otherwise, it's not something I would ever imagine eating at a restaurant. Way too many other seafood options.

Glad to see so many BR restaurants using the freshest frozen Chinese tilapia, and proudly highlighting it on their Restaurant Week menus.

The smart play is to go straight to Walmart and pick up the frozen bag there. Cut out the middleman!!

Kudos BR!!!

I didn't start the thread. My problem with Baton Rouge is the mindset. A majority of the people are entirely too complacent about the dining scene. I'm sorry I find it inexcusable that imported frozen Chinese pond fish is tolerated in a city 2 hours from the gulf coast. For the record, I am still 'here' and do everything I can to make the most of my time here, but I can't help but get frustrated at the general apathy that surrounds the community.

And the real joke is that the Baton Rouge locals probably pack these places every night of the week.

Dude, youre from Shreveport. I have heard from so many Shreveport people that Outback in S Shreveport is "the place to see and be seen". Don't be all high and mighty. Chain restaurants are slammed in Shreveport every single day.

YOu are aware that many species of fish are not allowed to be caught for commercial purposes. The tilapia is most probably grown in Missisippi along side of catfish, They are both the shite of the sea being bottom feeders.

Hasn't stopped New Orleans from providing quality fish

I hope so. Farm raised is infinitely better than frozen Chinese shite

This is true. I'm not the biggest catfish fan. It gets a pass because it can be fried easily and well.
